Hi everyone,

 

I have a twin turbo, manual, 1993 300zx.

 

Unfortunately my gear box (manual) is just broke. I was driving one day and suddenly the gear stick just dropped, it would not go in to any gear :( it was totally un-driveable.

Would not go in to any gear at all, even reverse. Blocked one lane off (rush hour) for 45 mins untill the recovery truck came and took it to my mechanics.

Please see the attached photos for reference. It seems the gear linkage has just snapped off. Some people say it is a common problem, but i cant find a replacement anywhere?

 

This is the part that is broken, its connected to the gear linkage, but its totally snapped off. It wont pick up any gear at all.

 

Found a place in USA, that can supply it. But £100 is very expensive.:huh:

 

Just wondering if anyone here can help? Any one else come across this issue? Or anyone local i can buy the part off?

This is the part you need. The rubber perishes, gives way and the linkage drops.

I've got a spare one out the back door you could have for £20 posted.

Got a bit of surface rust but could easily by cleaned up and sprayed to protect it.

Ah,

 

So has the pin on that part broke off!

 

Then yes it would be the full top triangle piece that bolts to the actual gearbox.

 

Luckily I have that too but due to the weight I can send it for 30 by courier.

 

I'll get a pic up shortly.

Also more than likely need to remove the prop to change it.

The rubber is more than likely to have given way rather than that pin breaking!

 

Can you whip off the gearknob, take out the leather and then rubber gaitors and take a close-up photo?

Not trying to say the abvious but you sure the bolt just came undone.

 

If you pull the knob upwards where it should be and hold it can you not move gears?

 

As that should be achievable even with that bolt snapped.

 

Mind to hold the clutch in rather than force shifting.

The part I pictured is not shown on your pics as we presume you've removed it already to get a clear picture of underneath.

Thanks for all your comments!! Appreciate it all. Well i heard a big snap noise just before the gears dropped. So i am assuming it is the pin that broke, dont know why.

I will try posting some more pics, but at the moment it is at my mechanics.

 

JaiKai please can you post a pic of the triangle part as i am keen to buy that and see if that does the job.

Doing a late shift tonight so will be after 7pm before i can post anything up for you to see.

Still a short shifter attached to this so if you want that too we can do a deal on it all or let me know what bits you actually need.
