Hi there,

Annoyingly I have just seen this thread after making a few purchases.

http://forums.nicoclub.com/post6600843.html#p6600843

I have bought a N/A manual gearbox (bare gearbox) and was hoping to make the adaptions to fit it on TT engine (which I have yet to purchase).

Unfortunately after reading the forum above

I have purchased a

TT Clutch and Brake Pedal

TT Clutch Master Cylinder

TT Clutch Slave Cylinder

TT Alternator to Transmission harness

TT Shifter Bar (with shifter and linkage attached)

(Since I have seen the above forum I thought id pause on the spending and get some advice)

Will all of these parts this fit using the N/A gearbox? (with the intensions to do the mods for it to fit the TT Clutch and Flywheel)

Many Thanks

Lawrence

All I can tell you as I've not done it myself, is that there is a lump inside the bellhousing that needs to to be ground off to accept the larger flywheel, it's quite an obvious bump. The starter is obviously too close in and requires a spacer to allow it to mesh up.

Hi bud,

Yeah there is I was planning to grind out the inside so I can fit the TT and Flywheel.

(Then do the starter motor mod)

My main concern was that I bought

TT Clutch and Brake Pedal

TT Clutch Master Cylinder

TT Clutch Slave Cylinder

TT Alternator to Transmission harness

TT Shifter Bar (with shifter and linkage attached)

(as it was just the gearbox i purchased with nothing else attached)

I basically wondered if I continued buying the TT set up will it be all alright to fit it to the gearbox as I seen on another thread that you cant buy a TT clutch master cylinder for a N/A setup because the TT is equipped with a vacuum assisted clutch booster.

(which kind of stumped me a little - an thought id double check)

Id image id need to buy the N/A starter motor because i seen somewhere on a different forum the shape is a little different on the TT gearbox? (or can i buy the TT starter motor to fit onto the N/A gearbox - once the mod has been applied)

I was basically under the impression the gearbox was the same apart from having to do the mod with the clutch and fly wheel. (An it was easier to purchase TT stuff at this current moment of time)

Cheers

Lawrence

TT Clutch and Brake Pedal - Wont make a difference as you have the master and slave clinders to match

TT Clutch Master Cylinder - wont make a difference as you have the brake pedal to match.

TT Clutch Slave Cylinder - wont make a difference as you have the master and brake pedal to match

TT Alternator to Transmission harness - wont make a difference, the harness will still be using the same switches. (reverse lights, speed sensor ect)

TT Shifter Bar - Wont make a difference as the mounting points are the same

You will how ever need a TT balance bar, or a way to T into the large vac port on the top plenum just behind the balance bar so you can get the benefit of vac assisted clutch and a one way check valve for the clutch vac pipe work. .

Thankyou so much for this info mate!

(couldn't say thank you enough - owe u a brew)

Will I need the NA starter motor or can I use the TT starter motor and mount it on my NA gearbox?

Cheers Lawrence

the TT flywheel will be larger, its not the starter motor that's the issue, its the bell housing on the gearbox, the starter motor is the same regardless of NA or TT, you will need to use a spacer of some sort to bring the starter motor away from the flywheel where the starter usually mounts too the bell housing at, someone should have some spacer info for you as i dont know that one.

if I was you id assemble the clutch on the flywheel and pop it on the gearbox shaft, this will allow you to see wethere you hav enough clearance and weather the starter engauges properly as it bolts to the gearbox not the block.

Hi, this may help you a bit, I have used a na 5 speed box on my TT motor and works well.

Just use a air die grinder with a good burr and grind the raised humps on the inside of the bell housing of the gearbox, I removed about 50mm of each hump which are located at the gearbox bolt holes . The na or TT starter will work although you will have to make a 3mm ally spacer between starter and bellhousing.

Cheers

Do this also for clearance with your TT flywheel and your N/a bell housing..

There are multiple points to grind and mine was already done as per some instructions however when i bolted it all together it touched the bit around the starter window not allowing me to turn the crank.

unfortunately i had to do this in situ to prevent damaging my stupidly expensive ally adapter. bad times :(
