Well, it’s that time of year again. 6th September I’ll be competing in the Brighton National Speed Trials.

The Trial is held over a track which is a quarter of a mile in length, on a straight tarmac surfaced roadway, running Eastward from the start. It’s a standing start individually timed event.

I’ve not competed since 2011 where I achieved a time of 13.52 with a terminal of 108mph

2012 I spectated as my wife was due to have a baby and I was ‘on call’, someone also died in a side car crash.

2013 was cancelled due to the death in 2012.

There is a fantastic range of cars and bikes and is a great day out for all.

Think it’s about £12 to get into the paddock but well worth it. If you decide to go, please come and say hi! Practice runs start at 09:00 and I’ll be one of the first so get there early.

Thanks Gaz.

She is lighter than back in 2011 (few bits removed and forged wheels) and has a NA Diff conversion – the green/orange wrap should also make it go faster…

I’ve read that the diff conversion can knock one second from your quarter mile time. Time to put that to the test!

Will try to make this, haven't been since 2010, For anyone who is thinking of going it's s great day out, and with good access to see the vehicles up close.

Hoope you do well Chris.

I entered in 2010 but the wife was overdue our first baby so I was not able to make it.

Good luck, it's a really good event. Despite living 2 streets away I didn't manage to run while I was living there so look forward to going again and competing!

I would be surprised if the ratio change reduced the time by more than a tenth or two, but it all helps! Have you been to santapod for any shakedown runs?

No, I've only managed one track day and then been busy moving house. I get one practice run there..

There's some major machinery entered! That's my kind of event, wish I would have had time to enter!

There's always next year!

There's always next year!

Would I be right in thinking that you have to be "asked/invited" if you would like to compete rather than just apply?

You have to join the Brighton and Hove Motor Club and then you can enter the Handicap Class once you have all the MSA approved kit and paid for your licence. Check out their website, it explains the process quite well.

I was planning on coming to this this year but other plans have taken over, some dog show thing I promised madam I'd take her to. Need her in the good books after this weeks discovery.

Well, let's just say that a NA diff swap alone does not knock a second off your 1/4 mile time. More details and pics to follow when I get home.
