After returning from a little jaunt down the coast, I got out and noticed my offside headlight was out. It's done this before but quite a while ago. Jiggled around with the ballast and connectors without turning them off and it made no difference.

Turned the lights off for a short while and then decided to try them again - the headlight that was out, miraculously starts working again.

Anyone else experienced this?

Andrew are you running HIDs? As I havent fitted any yet, and with the Selin, wasn't going to as per you link re the "intereference" from the HIDS.

I have an early (unshielded/unprotected) Selin. The HIDs I installed came with Phillips (made in Germany) ballasts. I've not experienced

any problems so far with the Selin I have and the ballasts. It was a rare event in any case which affected a small number of Selin users.

Later Selins have been "hardened" to both power line and radiated interference.

Yes I stand corrected, the H3c is a stumpier bulb at 5mm less - i didn't even know it existed as a HID light bulb option that is !!

The fitment is different too. H3 bulbs never really fit that well, where as the H3C has a different mount on it which gives a more secure and easier fit.

Incorrect, there is a difference that I am not going to ignore. The fitment of H3C is FAR better than the H3, in addition, the orb is a different size designed for the H3C fitment giving less light bleed as it sits slightly further back in the projector. If I can get H3C then I will as a preference in getting it spot-on. It is available.

Have you got something that documents that?

Yeah somewhere. Measurements were taken on a number of bulbs and their outputs/projection pattern. I'll see if I can find it.

Thanks, I know that when I installed my H3 HID kit I compared the two side by side. The halogen filament was bang in the

middle of the HID discharge bubble (like this photo I pulled from the web).

I could try moving the HID bulb back in the holder to see what difference it makes, if any to the pattern. I still think the

best solution for me is to retrofit a complete OEM HID projector assembly.

I did read on someone retrofitting a BMW or Mercedes projector with HID...

Anyway, I think the further back you move the bulb, the less bleed you'll get. I currently have H3 in mine and you can see the light bleed. I am sure this is concurrent with anyone who has H3 over H3C.

The difference is that in the UK spec headlights they (the mounting bases) were designed to take H3 bulbs and place the

filament in the correct position for the optics. So in my case the HID is probably in as good a place as it gets. In Jap spec

headlights the mounting bases were designed for H3C and you have used H3 HIDs so the focal point will be way off in

your case.

Yup, correct. Forgot briefly and strangely that your car was not a UK spec! It's Friday, we'll blame it on that!
