This is probably aimed at anyone who has done a complete engine strip down or has the indepth knowledge lol, but as i have a badly knocking cam on the right bank, im assuming oil starvation and as such is likely down caused by a blocked check valve or oil squirter up to the heads from the block.

Options im looking at, i need to know if the check valve can be cleaned in situe, ie head off and access to the block or whether it has to be changed, or my easier option would be some sort of detergent to clean or unblock it and i can just change the cams and lifters without taking the heads off.

Opinions or advice please.

Cheers

You will get plenty of them Graham.

All the usual suspects will be queuing up to answer.

Whether any of the responders comply with your description

has the indepth knowledge lol,

is another matter.

Basing any plan of action on "assumptions" is risky.

You really need to determine the root cause of the failure first. (In my non expert opinion!!)

Hellraiser had a very similar issue, on his track car. All sorted now, so hopefully he will chime in. I wasn't involved in that escapade though so can't really offer anything other than that.

Sorry for the assumption wording, i know its oil starvation, as it rattled a bit on cold starts, i recently put fresh oil in and it quietened down a fair bit, then obviously just got to the point it is now, sounds like it has no oil on that bank and clattered and rattled.

I know im going to have to strip it, but the check valve is my concern.
