Our cars get massively undersold. Why are they 3000 rather than 6000. Surely if we just all set the bar higher it would come up to meet us. Add 2 grand to funk si's list up above and don't take a penny less.

It baffles me the way they change hands at 2.5 to 4 grand. When ratty Supras with a scatterung of dodgy mods and 120'000 miles are 6 grand! It is ridiculous.

I'm gonna start this trend. My car cost 3 grand, it could be sold for 6500 and is insured for 10.

Sadly there will alway be the person desperate to sell due to other financial priorities which usually leads to them being sold cheap and also not all owners come on this forum and tend to value their car by Ebay examples. Another downer in the price battle is some of the headers to many of the blogs on here when they play up, this will also put potential new owners off. I think we are our own worst enemies when things go wrong as we tend to then loose our patience. These cars are now 20 years old (+-5years) and are quite sophicated engineering wise which make diagnostics a nightmare and we should accept that ownership will have its ups and downs. We all love the ups so lets all love the downs too, on a plus note you usually always learn something when they do have a problem whereas when there going well...........you just enjoy driving it.

right there mate, its the only way forward.

The problem there is that you have stated the car is £3000, not £6500 you'd be asking

The car I own today is not the car I bought. I bought a banger and now own a fine and sound example (statement true after bodymech are finished).

If I sold at £6500 it would be a substantial loss.

your never going to buy a z and spend a load of cash doing it up with the idea of selling to make money or even get your money back, you buy it cus you want one and nothing else. if you enjoy having the car what does it really matter what its worth. I have had all kinds of expensive fast car over the years lotus bmw Porsche the z has been the cheapest fast car I have ever owned and I like it the best. don't be do hung up on valve just except its a good cheap fast car and enjoy it.

I agree with that Dan, and I hope I am able to keep this csr forever, no doubt something will scupper that plan, but that is the aim. So it should never matter, but I have always been baffled by the supra price difference.

I just wanted to elaborate that I didn't simply buy it for 3 to sell for 6. I also realise putting 2 grand brakes on doesn't add 2 grand to the value, its the tuning paradox, add mods and sometimes lower the value

mate has a supra and its not built any better then the z. just enjoy ye car and stop worrying about what its worth its a cheap fast car that anyone car afford to buy. I think some people don't like the idea its a cheap car but who cares really I have had expensive cars that most people will never afford to own but if you enjoys driving it then it could be worth £1000 or £80.000 its just don't mater atall

Money on modifications is often money wasted, rarely will you make any return, sometime even a step back. You can't own a car like these as an investment, unless you buy a mint orginal car and leave it in dry storage for ten years your unlikely to have made a sound investment. Some things like 99 spec rear lights or a set of newish aftermarket turbos may help, aesthetic lifts and doing away with perceived trouble spots, but overall you get the point.

I'm not going to say names or even alude to them(not that it matters because the car mostly in my mind, has been broken now anyway) but a really high profile z32 I've seen with 10s of thousands put into mods neglected the simple details, for example this car had ratty split window seals( mine has the same btw), you can't demand top dollar if the basics arnt covered. A friend of mine builds some highly expensive cars that have won a fair few awards and he always repeats to me that it's the little things that count, like making all the bolts line up in the engine bay. Yes it's over the top but all those little things are what creates a true show stopping classic.

How many z32s are rolling around with grotty scuttles, worn targa trims etc etc. We all know the common age related niggles. A perfect paint job combined with those doesn't make a perfect car. Once you look at a lot of other classic cars old fords particularly the standard of them is significantly higher, an A1 condition mk1 escort is really something, I don't think I've seen more a hand full of A1 z32s.

One day prices will rise as the fritters drop out and hopefully more A1 cars will start to appear. It's a double edged sword.

So next time you've got money burning a hole for your investment ask yourself what's worth more, some flash wheels or sorting out those leaky targas?

Dont take this the wrong way, mine is far from perfect but I don't profess it is. It's extremely average, it's also a toy that gets used so I can't be to precious or I'd never use it, which I would consider a waste.

These cars will pick up in value as time goes on. Ive recently seen previously unloved z31s being advertised

at prices generally higher than comparable z32s. -unthinkable 10yrs ago when I first got interested..

It's the market that sets the prices, not the sellers (unless all sellers hold fast to thier idea of value when selling.)

Something is only worth what the highest bidder will pay on the day.

It can be difficult for an owner to be objective especially if they have an emotional connection to the car

(and most people on here who have worked hard improving their cars are emotional about them)

We should just enjoy our cars and not get too caught up in the idea that they're undervalued. They are

at the moment but that will change.

A 54 plate z, I think he needs his eyes testing

Looking at the spoiler I'd say '94

Difinitely not an 04 lol imported in 04 is more likely

And the interior !

Original untouched and unmodified :thumbup1:

I know I'm in the minority but I really like the tweed interior. Obviously it has to be in impeccable condition. The one in the car advertised above has a repair to the drivers seat, so detracts slightly. But overall that's a lovely looking Zed.

If the body is in good condition Daffy then it would make a good buy for someone like you who would show it a lot of love and care.

It's saved in my 'watching' list lol

That damage to the seat will be from leaky targa's. If you can get him down to £2500 and it checks out good up close it sounds like a winner.

As with ALL classics or retro classics you get a HUGE divide in pricing, that is either down to their condition or because the owners don't really know their true value. The 'general' perceptions is that they're dirt cheap cars, but that is skewed by the less-than-desirables you see on eBay for instance. Usually those that are in what I'd call 'exceptional' condition are owned by long term owners who are unlikely to sell anytime soon.

Couldn't agree more Si :thumbup1:

But how can you put a value on the pleasure to be had from creating something the way you want it? Simply because the money does not add to the value of the car I don't think it is fair to consider it wasted money. Wherever I take my car, it turns heads. How much is that worth?

Like for example the conservatory I put on the house a couple of years ago - it didn't add it's cost to the value of the house, but then can we just ignore it's value to us when we enjoy the sitting their with the patio doors open?

Likewise buying a new car would be money wasted (yeah OK someone will point out there are exceptions to that) Go buy one a couple years old, i's much better value. Yet many people aspire to 'waste money' on new cars if we look at it in that way..

Sorry I simply don't agree it is money wasted.

OH PS I do agree about 20yr old external trim/scuttles etc - replaced every last bit of mine with brand new when I got the car resprayed - and it cost almost as much as the body kit!

I also think that was money not wasted.... though I doubt it increased the value of the vehicle by a proportional amount

clarifications

I have bought TT-Auto Zeds for £500 :D

The reputation perpetuated on UK forums about them being only good for 350bhp before exploding in a ball of flame hasn't exactly helped values when they're pitched against Supras, Skylines & GTOs (to some extent) that can go 600+. Why would anyone buy a 300ZX when they're impossible to "maintain" and "tune". Rather ironic given the VG30DETT is Nissan's flagship engine from the 90s, good for 700+ on a stock block and hitting 260mph on the salt flats ;)

Obviously, it's not all about bhp. There are now thankfully many more options for regular maintenance and performance tuning than before. Owners now have a choice where to go and how much to spend which wasn't the case a few years ago. Everything is covered now, whether you want a cambelt change, a bodykit fitting or an 800bhp monster build. Bringing them in line with Supras in the UK will be difficult, after all, the MKIV was delayed in order to better the Z32 in every way IIRC and they sure weren't a "10s car" in a huge Hollywood street racing blockbuster...

As for the car in question on eBay, there is no "spec" required for 357bhp
