Brake Master Cylinder Upgrade

Hi All,

My Z has D2 big brakes on the front, braided lines and everything else stock. The problem I have is the pedal feel, there is a lot of travel before the brakes pick up properly, and decelerating from warp speed I can hit the floor with the pedal and still not get the full effect of the brakes.

I have changed fluid, and rebuild the MC but I feel the correct solution here is a bigger / higher displacement master cylinder - so my question is - does anyone know of an aftermarket or cross model swap I can do ? Searching only turns up "240sx brake upgrade 300zx mc" . dang silvia boys!

Thanks,

Regards,

Simon

the prob is the flex on the brake booster its self turn your engine on get some to press the brakes and you open the bonnet and watch the booster flex out. if you fit a brake master cylinder brace the pedal will feel 100% better I had the same issue on mine

Nah, doesn't sound right to me. My current Z with stock brakes are actually pretty good, I certainly don't need to make the pedal hit the floor to make it stop.

On my previous Z, I had K-Sport 330mm brakes fitted up front, stock at rear and by God that really braked hard and fantastic with no need for braces or such like. Very powerful indeed!

Sounds like you've still got air in there TBH. Have you bled the ABS unit as well and all in sequence?

Don't have any input on MC's though, sorry.

there could well be be air in the system. but in every z I have drivin you can force to pedal near to the floor. the flex in the booster is a hell of a lot after fitting one the pedel was rock hard. open the bonnet like I said and get some to press the brake pedal with the engine running and you will see what I am talking about .

As Dan said; I would look into getting a BMC brace. In all my years on the forum I can't remember anyone having to upgrade the zed BMC no matter what brakes they are using.

sounds like air in system or brake master failing ...

all so did you bleed both sides of the caliper .. IE Front 1st then back 2nd of the caliper ?

and Both bleed nips are at the top ..

Sounds like air to me too, incidentally what BMC do you have? There's a few on our cars, it's printed on the side.
