Symptoms of the clutch going?

What are the symptoms of the clutch going / gone in the Zed? I have a feeling my clutch has gone in the Zed.

I went to the gym without issue. Parked up and when I came back to the car, it started fine, but it would not engage first gear. The clutch pedal was really light. Turned the engine off and the gear was able to engage first, but when I started her up, the car lurched forward (as if the clutch was already engaged). This is without pressing the pedals. After a few attempts I gave up and pushed the car back into a parking space. Since it was in a public car park which I had to pay for I had to get it towed to a garage where is it currently waiting for diagnosis.

Any ideas? Has the clutch gone or is it something to do with the manual gearbox? Its a 93 Jap import LWB BTW if this helps?

Any help appreciated as the garage it is at are not Zed specialists...

The clutch is fluid operated and its sounds like you have a problem there not the actual clutch, check the fluid level first and then see if it needs bleeding, quite possible you have either a leak or low fluid that has allowed air into the system.

Mine did this and despite my best attempts I couldn't find the leak. Turned out to be the master, leaking from the rear down the firewall. Once the carpet was pulled back it was all wet with fluid. Good as gold since i rebuilt it.

Thanks chaps for this info. I will pass onto the garage to determine.

Will let you know what they find next week.
