Middle lane hoggers are probably my biggest bugbear. I can't physically sit in the middle lane unless I am overtaking something. My instinct is ALWAYS to come back to the inside lane at every opportunity, purely because it's the closest lane to get the hell of off if you have a mechanical failure of sorts! I'd rather have a blow out in lane 1 than lane 3. Plus there are all the other reasons why in terms of traffic volumes and queues etc.

ย

Exactly how I feel. Middle lane hogging is so annoying and dangerous to other road users. People that do this should be forced to retake their driving test..

I think to be honest, very little is tested for in terms of motorway driving. Whilst I get annoyed at the drivers and really, common sense should be exercised, those that really have limited comprehension won't really know any better.

I always want to come back to the lane of quickest escape. I've had a blowout on the motorway and I am glad that I was exercising good lane discipline when it happened. Sure, it could have happened out on lane 3, but if I hadn't have come back to lane 1, my chances of having an accident would have been that much higher.

Nasty..!!

You are right about the motorway driving. I think that once you pass your driving test you should then be moved on to an advanced driving course. This would deal with bad weather, night time driving and motorway driving for example. Upon completion of this second advanced test, you can then be issued a Full license..

ย

I think this would decrease the amount of morons we seem to have on the roads..

It should be the middle lane tosser that should get done as that IS an offence and being a loory driver myself the number of cars I have to pass on the left as they are only doing 48 mph on a clear motorway it's the only way passed them for me as I can't use lane 3.

ย

Technically they should as they are not paying due care and attention, lane two is an overtaking lane not a traveling lane. That's an offence in itself. If you cause an accident because your hogging the outter lanes and crash into the car "undertaking" you the simple fact is you should have, mirror, signal, manoeuvre. Which if this didn't occur that caused your accident? Ah yes mirror! So that's two offences on your part undue care and dangerous driving. Niceeeeee.
