After a 300 mile run on Saturday in the Z, I was a couple of miles from home when i realised the car didnt feel right so stopped, this is what I foundPhoto0157.jpg

4 of the studs had sheared, anyone else had this happen with spacers fitted?.

fook me. who are they made by ?

that doesn't look cool, I would say either the studs where the wrong tensile strength or the wheel wasn't fitted correctly.

there are loads of cheap one in ebay nowdays if you look at the price of them and then a top notch one the price is miles apart

The studs where they have sheared dont look right to me, and I know the wheel was fitted right. I bought them from a club member (not their fault btw) so dont know too much about them, but after this I'm a bit reluctant to fit any more

Studs only really shear when there's undue vertical stresses put on them, ie, lose wheel nuts, no spigot rings etc allowing the wheel to move on the hub face.

What did you torque the spacer to wheel bolts too?

I think it was 110nm,

they are cheap made crap. With something like that you don't want to skimp !

How did you come to that conclusion? They could be H&R or Eibach.

I can see what's likely to have happened here; it looks likely that a spigot ring wasn't fitted to the wheel before mounting. This has subsequently damaged the flange as the wheel is forced in all sorts of directions which looks like it's been torn off, that force has then sheared the studs.

They could be 'cheap made crap', but for 4 studs to sheer off like that with the amount of damage to the hub flange, it's highly probable that it was something unrelated to the spacers.

Whats the best ones, I dont want that again, so sod the cost

H&R or Eibach, but please read what Andrew and I have written.

Looking at the pic you can see they were hubcentric, and the spigot portion looks to have broke off. Causing the torsional stress on the studs.

If you want good ones then the ones suggested above are top notch quality.

Hub flanges do not just 'break off'. There is a reason they do sheer or tear off like that and that would be incorrect fitting. With the spigot correctly mounted and the wheel studs torqued to the correct setting, there would be no impact stress across that flange to cause the damage you see here.

I checked the wheel when it first happened, and there is no damage to the inner flange, there where some filings by the stud holes, so unless the wheel nuts have worked loose? not sure why as I torque all my wheels every time, force of habit.

Regular checking is essential. They can work loose and sometimes quickly. First few hundred miles I will always check my wheel nuts every long trip I make either on my DD or my Z.

If there were metal filings. Your nuts are likely to have worked lose. Those filings would have been from where the stud would have worn the stud-hole on the wheel.

Either way, that damage is due to lose wheel nuts or non-fitting of a spigot ring.

I know flanges do not just break off, I deal with metal everyday of work.

But pics don't lie. maybe the spacers are not the correct Nissan centre bore

Not entirely sure on what you mean here. Pics don't lie and they show the result of impact stress on a hub flange. Impact stress that can only be caused by vertical movement on the Y axis. This movement can only be caused by lose wheel nuts and/or no spigot ring.

It's not because they are 'cheap crap'. :)

The pic is not the best quality, but they looks cast rather than billet.

And yes the break would have been caused by stress on the x or y axis.

OP are they cast or billet ?

I would say they look cast

Exactly, I'm guessing that they are Nissan centre bore size, being used with an aftermarket wheel that isn't. It's likey a combination of factors, mine have been on for 3 years without spigot rings without doing this, (ebicah ones) however this isn't ideal and the hub centre should support the wheel not the studs. Something wasn't right with the instal and its likely set out and caused a vibrational effect causing fatigue and finally shearing, where they up to the job to start with? I couldn't say but the wrong kind of stress has been applied to the studs causing this one way or another.

No, not the X axis! Can't say I've ever come across cast spacers before.

I think I may look for some new wheels instead, :whistling: so I dont have to fit them. I wanted 9.5s and 10.5s anyway, so good excuse to tell he wife
