Been checking the timing just now with Paul and I have a question around how you check the timing.

 

In short, what angle should you be looking down at the timing marks. So directly from the middle of the car? Or from the side where you'd have to look if the fan shroud is on which is from the side.

 

Just thinking that the angle you look from would mean you set the timing differently that's all.

Aren't there timing marks?

Yes, that's what I mean though, if you look directly from above it'll look slightly different from if you have a side angle like you'd have if your fan shroud is still in place

I know what you mean, paralax error is what it's called, I am afraid I dont know but I imagine it's square on with you having to compensate for the error "by eye like" :)

I don't know if anyone's ever really asked the question but with the fan shroud on, I don't think you can really see it from the middle of the car. I don't have the shroud on though at the minute

This should help, have put a red line through the crank center and used the 15 deg mark as reference.
