Then you may have trouble at the next MOT as they check the VIN number plate, no plate no MOT, that was my experience when i took mine off to respray the crossbeam.

Useful update though! Saying that, things must be in a really good place with your car if that's all you have left to worry about :-) Half the time I'm worried if my arse will fall through the floor at 60mph

Who was the supplier in Japan Andy?

Just put the part number Andrew into ebay, only one will appear.

Best offer of 36.50 USD was accepted, offer less and computer says no, comes real quick with no import duty - well mine did !!

I paid a bit less then that :p

I’ll get mine sent away for embossing one day! When I first received the plate, I made several calls to various different contacts through Nissan, went round in circles, upside down, back through the same hole, round the tree, through the rabbit hole and all the way back with the general consensus of “Erm, no”!

I then sent emails to 704 companies from google with pictures of what I wanted and the majority said they couldn’t do it. I did have one company in China that said they could do it but would cost 170USD and I’d have to order a minimum of 5! Another company in France came back as a yes but the press they use is with a company in the Ukraine and that I’d have to pay them direct via Western Union, sounded dodgy!

I finally got a good hit on a company in Doncaster that said they would do it for £44 inc vat and shipping, this thread has reminded me to send it away. Have you looked into where to get it done Andy?

The answer to your question is no, not got that far as yet.

£44 seems very fare though and i'd be in for that if we can negotiate a GB.

Failing that, my respray guy used to dabble/repair cat C vehicles and because of this it makes me wonder if he knows anybody, i shall ask him in the coming week and report back either way.

It all sounds pretty straightforward to me. Personally I would also make sure to picture the original plate on the vehicle with some kind of time/ date evidence and then do the same as soon as the new plate is fitted. Just keep the old plate away somewhare safe too then if anyone was to question the new plate in future you have the evidence to hand. I know Si is not planning on selling, I am only making a suggestion.

I guess the next step is to see if a company can be found that can do the stamping of the characters in the correct position and copy the original type and positioning as accurately as possible.

Anyone with a tool can stamp/ press something but it needs doing correctly if you are going to go to the trouble of keeping it as original as possible. To be honest I dont think the picture of the original looked that bad but I also know the feeling when you feel something is not quite as you would like it. I hope you find what you need now, it will no doubt help a lot of others out in the future.

Holy cow I looked high and low for these when I imported mine!!! Not sure if anyone will be able to find someone with matching stamps though. If anyone does, let us all know!
