Just received this from Jaylox:

hello, this is an automated email inviting you to come and veiw my new zed forum http://www.z32.co.uk

if you have already recieved this email please ignor it and appologies.

the new forum has been up and running for 2 days and is looking for new members ,especially members with good sound technical knoledge of the z32

any advice on what else the forum needs to make it better or more interesting would be appreciated

we will be adding more links to great sites such as ttnet ,courtesey and loads of other forums asap so thanks to them for help and advice in the past

thanks for your time .admin z32

Just a couple of points Jay :

1) I get enough spam already thanks. Honest. I'm not encouraged to find my forum friends sending me 'automated mail'

2) Can't say I was overly impressed with your tt.net post saying that your site was set up because this one was too expensive

3) I did go to your site and note that although you have plenty of links, you don't currently have one to this site, despite the fact that you're using this site to find addreses for spamming for new members

Now I know I have made an assumption that the Jaylox who sent me the mail was you. I've also assumed that you got my mail address from here (although I'm 99% certain of that as I use different addresses in different places).

Would appreciate your comments. And those of any other members of course.

Years of development has gone into this site and I think that you, like the rest of us have benefitted. How about supporting it ?

'Top Fella's warning wasn't really necessary - the posts on here were addressed to you so it wasn't exactly 'behind your back#.

answers to your questions

1,my brother sent the emails, the emails were obtained from friends in the usa who i have contracts with for my c/f,they just helped me and my bro out with contacting some uk zedders, ive never been on here or ttnet for anything, some good friends/members on ttnet have helped loads tho and thanks to them

The fact that your brother sent them is irrelevant to my points. I apologise for being incorrect in saying you got the addresses from here. You still spammed me.

Just an idea, but you might find that posting on the leading UK 300zx site might be even more effective at finding "uk zedders" than asking people on tt.net.

Interesting approach to the problem of "too many forums" - set up another.

ive set it up and please excuse me but its only my 2nd forum,as you can tell ive self taught myself in 3 months and i am still learning.i could of used the vbullitin code as its not that much to buy but i thought id mess about with php and add to it as i could,my site at the moment is just a SHELL AND HAS NO REAL CONTENT BUT THAT WILL IMPROVE AS I GO ALONG!to double the speed cost pennies too,i'll sort that when i get a few members

to all the guys who slagged my site off,700 hits and 49 members aint bad for a self made 3 day old forum is it,my last forum had 180,000 in an hour which wasnt bad for a live broadcast either so thanks ! advice is always better than a slagging off

No slagging off from me - if you want to set up a site then go for it and, genuinely, best of luck to you. It's not what you've done that's upset people but, rather, your approach.

Hmmmm. You mention a number of sites in your spam mail but not this one. And you don't include Craig on your spam. Forgive us for jumping to conclusions ...

9 appologies to those who recieved the email and found it as spam it wasnt meant to be thought of in that way, more of a friendly invite sorry if i offended you

Apology accepted

10 craig if you want to call me my number is 07855861090 i hope we can get past all this crap and both help improve the zed forum world for everyone in the uk,in 1,we both love our cars so wats the point in being competion when we are both trying to give something back.cheers jason z32

Why should Craig ring you to sort it out ?!?!

I doubt Craig considers it a competition. However, if you genuinely want to work with Craig, how about setting up something which gives all the things which are "missing" from here and then pass the link to Craig.

With all your carbon fibre ideas, you've got the potential to offer something to the Z community and make some money. My advice to you is that you will be a lot more successful jumping onto Craig's bandwagon than starting your own. Ask the other traders ...

Dave

Jay I got the mail and I sent you a reply after having a look.

What cracks me up is that a member of this community does something harmless and gets David Lynched as a result of his effort and time.

We all have to start somewhere don't we???

I say nice one Jay and good luck to you mate. Forums are cheap as chips and there are so many popping up all the time who cares?

I set one up on Ezboard ages ago but the worst thing was the banner ads but you could pay if you wanted to get rid of them.

I don't mind at all getting a mail like the one Jay sent me, I don't really class that as spam either!

It's from a forum member FFS! Not really comparable with kiddy porn now is it boys and girls?

We've had some right fcukwits invade this board over the years and nobody blinks an eye but one of our mates starts up his own forum and he gets flamed!!! I dunno!!!

I got the e mail too, but cant say it bothered me, thats what people have e mail address for, if people dont want to recieve e mails they do not have to show thier e mail addresses on their profile.

And one more thing how come I nevr get e mailed any porn?

Lifes just not fair sometimes!

I completely agree with Timmy on that....."we all have to start somewhere"

I feel we should all be happy with the new site - having more Z sites mean more variety, knowledge and diversity for the Z'ers. Good luck with your new site mate and wish you all the best :)

Just not to sure of the people

Ahhhh....forgive me, but I just have to... ;)

Shouldn't that be "not too sure....", Mike? :D :D :D

People will vote with their mice! :D

If Jaylox's forum offers things this doesn't then they will go there, or they'll stick here.

On a larger level, a similar thing to this is happening with a Classic Triumph Club that I'm a director of. We recently changed our constitution to allow owners of ALL Triumph cars to join our club rather than just Herald chassis based cars. We knew that there would be objections from some, but the objections have, tbh, suprised us, not only on a club level, but also through the National press where this matter has been openly debated. May I just say that not all of the objections are rational or in fact based on anything rather than the desire to maintain their own small empire combined with the reluctance to develop.

Competition is good, it will, or at least should, benefit all concerned, if there is a threat to the continuation of this forum we will need to evolve and develop in order to sustain the requirements and expectations of the membership.

Unsolicited emails I can see as predatory, I personally would have been hacked off if I'd recieved one. If Jay's forum turns out to be successful, then it will be self publicising, I found 300zx.co.uk because a member (Vijay, I think) told me about it when I was on a Yahoo group.

So, in summation, from a removed position I think we should be, hacked off by the emails but we should also just sit back and see how Jay's forum develops and see if there is a real threat.

Sorry 'bout the ramblings, just had to get it off my chest. :D

Tim

heh...

jay, got no problem with you, your forum, etc, etc.

more resources for the Z can only be good, as people have pointed out.

some of your arguments about why dont really stack up, but i'm not going to argue with you over them.

the spam mailing forum members was a bit off though, from any point of view, noone likes that sort of thing really.

feedback suggests that you dont like the fact that there is a subscription required for the "social" aspect of the forum, and thats why you have done your own thing, fair enough

but, i'm sure your own thing costs more than 20 quid..

and if you are hosted on a shared server at an isp, with a finite amount of webspace and transfer allowance, then you will quickly find that a (busy) forum will incur a lot more costs than you have bargained for in the short term

the subscriptions for here have paid for a new server dedicated for this forum, and is hosted with very generous bandwidth allowances, to make sure that it does not grind to a halt like the previous hardware/software combo

this sort of performance costs money, which is what the subscribers have paid for.

the people with businesses that benefit from the members have somewhere which costs them far less than an ongoing magazine advert, and is focused towards a group that know their products and appreciate their knowledge

you point out yourself that speed costs money, and you will sort that out when you get more members...

as you are selling a product, you will no doubt use that money to help fund your site development.

i dont have a commercial enterprise based around the Z to fund the forum, as thats not what i set the site up for.

as you said before, its not about being competitors, its about providing a service and resources, but there are better ways of making yourself known.. ;)

Not going off topic (well slightly off topic), but we've had exactly the same thing happen with the Renault 5 GTTurbo Owners Club (of which I was the Treasurer, now Secretary), which has recently become the RTOC - Renault Turbo Owners Club (incorporating the R5GTTOC). Most people were fine with it, but some saw it as losing their identity - in fact we had people literally screaming and shouting at us about it - barmy.. We even kept the old logo on the webpages alongside the new ones..

Still - just goes to show the old adage is true, you can't please all of the people, all of the time..

Oh and you're very right Tim - people will vote with their mice..

Time will tell :)

Still, I wish Jaylox all the best with his forum & shop.

Are more sites better??? I don't think so. I don't have a problem with Jay's site.

What is a forum? It is a collection of people who have something in common - in this case a 300zx. Isn't splitting it into many different forums just going to spread the information around and make it even harder to find(and also go against the actual definition)? Just because a new forum springs up doesn't mean people are going to subscribe and suddenly come up with new ideas or suddenly become an expert etc. It is difficult enough finding info on the 300zx without any more forums springing up... Me? I'm not bothered either way but are you really prepared to trawl through tens of sites to find out, for example, why your car is misfiring???

Just my view thats all...

yup 100% on that one, at the end of the day i dont have tie enough to go searching all over to see who said what ect. and id much prefer any new ifno to be on one site like this one, at least its easy to get up and go through.

The problem is not about getting another forum, if he wants to so be it. But to go on TTNET nd slag this site of (like none of the members on here read ttnet??? ) and then come onto this site and try head hunt people (still pissed of i never got an invite :D)and then to not even put this site up as a link?

WTF are you playing at?

or did you gain nothing from this site while you were here?

Has anyone got the link to what was said on TT.net so we can make our own minds up?

Cheers

Mike

from what i read it was a couple of different threads.

a while ago so good luck in finding them lol.

ill try go back and search.

thats not the one i saw? oh and why the **** do i get mentioned in that thread?

Hmmmmmmm is this why i never got invited lmao.:D

Looking at that thread I do notice one thing - Jaylox won't admit to it being his site???

There's no such thing as a free lunch....

CheerZ,

Andy

I've got to say, I did enjoy the irony of the signature pic being a link to 300zx.co.uk's rides page.
