So lets talk about manifolds.

To spool a turbo don't you want evenly spaced pulses of exhaust gas hitting the power turbine? So on an evo or the like, you get a one of those octopusses orgy looking manifolds. That makes the pulses from 1-3-2-4 arrive as a constant rhythym through varying the pipe lengths?

I think I have heard the contrary.

I remember a couple of group buys on the AMS manifolds a while back, quite a few members bought them, did they turn out to be crap? I have been offered a pair and I wondered if they are any good?

Apart from not really knowing what goes into the castings (garden gates, man hole covers or whatever) the following defect

affected a batch of AMS manifolds:

is it made out of gold ?

i shan't bother trying to help if im gonna get sarcasm i will keep my knowledge to my self from now on

Dont take it to heart Steve, your knowledge is invaluable :thumbup1: I think Dan is trying to be funny and doesnt realise the design and creative hours involved with many parts we buy, have taken, anything bespoke or custom designed is higher priced than mass produced, simply by the time taken to design and research the product to improve on the original

Do you guys use external wastegates? They would increase exhaust flow as internal wastegates are quite restrictive in comparison.

Using an external wastegate which vents to atmosphere (screamer pipe) would also increase flow in the exhaust.

BTW I am not technical just thinking of experience.

Cheers

I don't know anyone with a vg30dett with external wastegates. It's probably a space issue imagine running the Wastegate lines and mounting them...maybe a single Wastegate mounted above the trans but what a faff to gain some room at the exhaust housing.

Just to note, I'm running AMS manifolds and Alloy Toyz 3inch expansion down pipes, and I had no problems with quality or fitment of the parts. They certainly perform with no issues.

Admittedly I may have got lucky as AMS rightly have a poor rep, but I bought these parts prior to the various issues with AMS parts became apparent.

I am no way a supporter of the AMS brand. And to be honest, I have had more issues with UK supplied aftermarket parts than stuff I've imported from the states
