I've had a **** year! Today was the icing on the cake!

Hardly driven the Shed-X this year but made it to Trax only to watch Macca have his AFM go tits up!

So drove the car off the drive to go to the Clarkey San meet and the drivers side window went west! Guide pin sheered and meant leaving the car on the drive for a further three weeks with the car cover on. Got that sorted this week and cheaply even at a Nelson!

But then hey, Satan bites you in the arse when you're down...Warren, Muffman and anyone else I've slagged off I take it all back. ;)

This afternoon I took the car up the road and she's stuck in 1st gear(auto) and negat changing taking place. So straight back home then...I checked the autobox fluid before I set out and it was crystal clear and checked it when I got back and still crystal clear but it was showing the same signs of what happened when my box went last year just before Crimbo. Opened the bonnet and smoke and a stink of burnt fluid is what I can assume.

So my box is fcuked AGAIN! Even though I have fitted the aftermarket cooler and it has only covered less than 20 klicks. Fcuking sh1te basically!

Checked my warranty and I've done 17K miles since the box was built...warranty covers 12,000 miles or 12 months whichever the sooner! Well p1issed off!!!

Some people advised me to go for the SE fast road build and if it hadn't been for strapped cash at the time I would've gone for it. So now the Shed is parked up, not going for a manwell conversion but will now have to wait until I get another contract before I can get the bitch down to SE for the fast road build!!!

I can honestly say that I love my car but I will never...ever...buy another Nissan so help me GOD!

Give me Toyota anyday! They(Nissans) are built as a pile of shite! Even had to replace the Crank Angle Sensor on Mrs T's 200 FFS!!!! ARSE!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and the boot doesn't release on her car either so that goes to show that Nissans are all built the same with little regard to long term reliability! My fcuking Ford Capris were more reliable FFS!

Gutted for you mate:(

But not rubbing salt in the wounds bud,My fast road rebuild has done 28k,and is still running real sweet,IMHO there are gearbox builders, and gearbox builders!

When you get it sorted bud the SE fast road conversion is the bollocks mate. You will see;)

Man that truly blows :(

All you can do is laugh, hell i often wonder if a pug 106 would be a better bet :(

This car has me so nervous of boosting it i really wonder if its not worth just running around in safty boost lmao.

know how you feel, i'm thinking of getting shut of mine

FFS, I reckon Mrs Turbo's been out caining it!

Clock the mileage, take it back then re-adjust mileage!

Bish bash bosh jobs a goodun.

Bob

I was going to suggest doing the mileage too, auto boxes should last far longer than 17K, it was not rebuilt properly so dont feel bad if you do clock it.

hope you get it sorted timmy - why dont you chuck a cheap 2nd hand box in till you can get yours rebuilt at SE? keeps you on the road & you can sell it again once yours is back in.

timmi m8t know how u feel bud my zeds still at gps been over a month now if i had extra cash then i would buy a supra!!! sorry guys but that's the way i feel right now might change though once i get my strosek kit on if i ever get my z back the latzio is working on it and he's a good fella so fingers crossed wont be long now!!

p.s supra group buy anyone??:p :p :p

Why not do the manual conversion? There seem to be lots of them going on. Why spend more money on a automatic when a five speed is so much more fun!

That's bad news Tim but it may not be as bad as you think. If it's staying in 1st then it's a changing rather than a drive problem. Typically when the boxes fail there is no drive whatsoever, so it does prove that at least some of it is working. Have you tried running the auto diags ? It could be an electrical connection problem with the control box, or even the control box itself (and I have a spare one of those!)

Fingers crossed matey ....

I think if I'd had the money I would have got a MkIV Supra.. But then I didn't (and don't, after it's all been sucked dry by the Z) have the money.. So don't feel bad, you're not alone!

And if it makes you feel any better, after 15 months of ownership (feels like a damn sight longer than that) I'm still stuck at 7psi full boost, 5psi SB!

Bl00dy cars, more trouble than they're worth.

Group buy on pushbikes, anyone??

Hope you get it all sorted bud..

[edited because I forgot what I was going to say half way through..]

Or my manual box has done over 155,000 miles and is still the original one.

The clutch on it now, (Getting it changed on Wednesday :D) has done over 70,000 miles.

Unfortunalty I think you just unlucky getting a Z with so many problems. I think Nissans are great. We also have a Bluebird and that runs sweetly starts every time and has very little rust and its a D reg.

My Z has only needs a clutch and tyres really. Rad recon but that wasnt too much, and I have had my Z for over about 18 months and done 20,000 miles.

Please dont call my car "built as a pile of shite".

Really gutted for you Tim, I hope what Andy is saying is right and it might not be so bad.

I also know how we have all been thinking, My zed has been on the road for a total of 3 months this year and expence after expence. I too was also thinking of the MKIV and even went and had a look at a couple earlier this month but they are just soooooo ugly and the zed is just too stylish.

When you see these zeds like maccas, yours, Jezs and now Chris etc you just know you have to stick with it. Good luck.

Cheers

Martin

Stick with it man, you know you want to. We all think about getting rid of our Z's when they go wrong-and I've had ALOT of things go wrong on mine, (had it 2 years) after 3 months engine blew to bits (£2500 to SE) heater matrix packed up, starter motor, ptu, throttle pos sensor, radiator, battery, prop shaft bearing, main fan AND electric fan, erm, thats about it I think. Hmmm, bloody thing, its keeping me skint. Car's and chic's man, nothing but TROUBLE.

oh yeah....... and a new fuel regulator. On another subject, bought some 2nd hand bigger discs off of a guy who was breaking his Z, (HKS I think?) turns out they're warped as f*ck, can I get new rotors? and keep the bell etc?

Please dont call my car "built as a pile of shite". [/b]

Sorry Stu you must be the luckiest Z owner on the planet then! But I have to say that in the two plus years I have been a member/irratant of this forum I can outgun you in every way when it comes to these cars being RELIABLE!!! :D

Well you can do all the usual stuff to check your buying a good car but in the end I still believe a lot of it comes down to plain old LUCK...People can say avoid imports or 1990 models but mine has never failed in 3 years and has been the best and most pleasurable car I have owned. In fact someone wanted to swap me thier K plate UK car the other day cos he was so sick of it getting one fault after another.

Needless to say my answer ended in "off" :D

Paul

You said it Paul, what most people forget is that these cars were fairly low production for the UK so when you see a concentration of people on here having problems it's not like comparing with a collection of Novas having problems!

Take a look back at what Nissan have given us...the Datsun Cherry Turbo once described as "Turbo charged japanese dog poo!" and the Sunny??? FFS!

My auntie has had nothing but endless problems with her 100NX!!! :D

Nuff said!

Does she have leaky T-tops too? :D

Wiring loom for the engine bay after being told mice must have bitten through it while it was parked in her garage! FFS!

Oh and Nissan couldn't work out what the grinding noise was coming from the front of the car...brake pads! Muppets! :D

I say don't sell the new 350Z in the UK coz the car is probably shite and will fall apart after about 50K and the dealers that are supposed to support it??? Nowt more to add to that! :D

Now I know why the old Z's are compared to Ford Capris...but at least the Capri was built to last! LMFAO :D

lol, our zed is the most reliable car we've had in ages, when all the other cars couldnt run (we have 5 ;)), the zed drove around without a single problem.

*touches wood, actually, hugs a tree! ;)

Im feeling for you Timmy. I know how I felt with the past 2 months of relativily small niggles which are parts that you expect to wear.

What you gonna do? You gonna cut your losses? :(

Only ever broke down once,AFM but I repaired it myself;)

So I can say the Z is a very reliable car;)

so you sitll gonna keep it after all this then timmy? If I were you i know i'd get the hell rid of it and get the MKIV poop you always wanted.
