Bedford Track Day

Well, spent the day packing every tool I could, fluids and spare wheels. Loaded the car and ready for a 4:45 start in the morning.

Good luck mate. Actually I'm leaving Tadley with my 2+2 on the trailer at around 05.00 bound for Advanced Motorsports just to give it a tweak now I'm keeping it. Zeds on trailers used to be a bad thing but if we keep working on it maybe one day it will become a 'good' thing :)

all went well. new NA diff was really good but the solid diff and subframe mounts let you hear every clunk and clank. Just getting up to speed, keeping caterhams, elises and 6.3L AMGs in my rear mirror and the brakes started to not feel quite right. Came in to let them cool as i was thinking they were possible overheating/fading. Went out on stone cold brakes after lunch and they we the same, solid pedal then it moved a bit but the braking was very poor. Tried a couple of stamps on the brakes and the car gently slowed a bit. I realised that stopping quickly wasn't an option for me so came in. Packed the car up for another day. Brakes can't even hold the car on the transporter ramps...

When I press the pedal, there's a 'pppphhheeesssss' sound from the pedal area which i've never noticed before. Gut feeling is that it's to do with the master cylinder. May be an air/vac leak?

hope you had fun while it lasted, but that's also what these test days are for. Does sound like the MC is leaking. I had a similar issue occur at croft, was fine most of the track but one certain corner the brake pedal went solid and very little braking - scary!!

Car looks good on track :) brakes not working has to be one of the scariest things on track but like James said testing is the key to making it a fast and safe car.

Brake problem diagnosed. Took all the old brake and clutch vac pipework off (manufacture date of 1992) and simply connected a new piece of fuel pipe from the engine to the brake booster. Brake now feels how it should and I can even get the ABS to work!

also put the pipe on the clutch and that went a lot lighter too:thumbup1:

Best order me some new 10mm Vac Line....

That's how mine is plumbed up as well. Although I ran a second line for the clutch booster using a manual balance bar, as my mate did it your way and lost the brake booster due to a leak in the clutch booster. Less prone to failure that way, be shit to loose the brakes due to the clutch one failing.
