Hi

Anyone had their windscreen changed by insurance company using autoglass or someone like that.

did it go ok no trims broken etc.

Mine has developed a large crack running down it passenger side about half way in 7 inch long at moment so need it done already spoke to Autoglass but they had not got a clue about car not on Database.

Just wondered if it was straightforward job for them, or any advice hints.

No horror stories if possible

My advice is remove all your pillar trims and scuttle covers yourself mate, let them just change the glass, them trims take a delicate patient approach, windscreen fitters tend to always be in a rush.

They should have the tools and know-how to remove them, but it's not hard to take the wipers and scuttle panel off. The side trims are a pain, no matter what as the clips can sometimes break on them. Again, they may have better joy at removing and refitting as I am sure they've experienced every trim and clip under the sun.

 

I had mine replaced when I changed all the glass from bronze tint to blue tint and I had removed everything.

I see screens replaced almost every week at work and believe me I have yet to see a good job done, as with any trade not all people do a poor job, but I see trims,scuttles,wiper arms broken all the time, I bet most glass fitters have never fitted a zed screen.

 

Quality of replacement glass is important too as there are a lot of low quality screens available now as there are car parts, I believe all car glass should be replaced with genuine oem glass as an industry standard. You pay your insurance premium so why shouldn't genuine glass be used to keep the car UNMODIFIED.

 

Remove trims yourself is my advice, if they break anything they will NOT replace them I can assure you of that.

That's not quite true. There are actually only a small handful of vehicle glass manufacturers in the world and you'll find that OEM glass is made by one of those factories. In fact, only one non-oem glass manufacturer makes glass for the Z32 and that's Pilkington. Whilst OEM Z glass would originally have been manufactured by Asahi Glass Corp (AGC), Pilkington manufacture for a huge number of OEMs and are the only company now who make windscreens for the Z32.

Just to add to that, Pilkington are owned by Nippon Sheet Glass Co in Japan.
