Hello, I'm Craig, new to the forum and hopefully picking up my first Z on saturday! Looks like an awesome forum!

I've seen coconat had lots of great advice when buying her 300...

Can you help me out at all, I'd really appreciate if you could. The car is twin turbo 1990 (I know about soft valves and cylinder head problems :/) apparently 70k miles on it imported in 2005. Needs a few things doing which is what I'm looking for. Apparently has a blowing exhaust to start with...

Any info on it, any of you know it/seen it?

Here's a link to a walkaround the guy took. Sorry I don't know how to embed so it might not work... :/

link if it didn't....: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltFPcg8vsVY

Can you confirm that there isn't anything noticeable wrong with the sound of it?

Any help or advice very much appreciated! It's up north near liverpool.

Cheers!!!

Welcome to the club mate looks a nice zed you want to get your self Subscribed it's well worth the money especially when it comes too help and advice and you get it here with spades

It's hard to tell from the video, I'm guessing it was a cold engine yeah? Idle sounds high, maybe a bit of an exhaust leak...hard to tell.

Handbrake lever high, engine noise possible cam belt slap, shame camera man reluctant to go to the engine end until the end for 1 second

"The car is twin turbo 1990 (I know about soft valves and cylinder head problems "

Forget about that know not a problem any more.

Awesome cheers for the replies guys, I've been browsing these forums for over a year now and my god the information you guys can recite is incredible! I learnt more about cars in general from z32 owners than I could have ever thought! If I get this car I will definitely become a fully fledged member on here and be posting a lot of stupid questions for you all!!

Spot on z32bolt, the exhaust is blowing apparently! Willing to change that myself, I'm a noob but figure I can do that, specially with the guides and info on these forums (my view on most of the work I plan to do).

Thanks Jeff, that's what concerns me a bit, thought he would have shown the engine bay running a lot more, but that could explain the low asking price..... I am planning to do a major maintenance over-haul once I get the car so will be changing all belts (if I can with my lack of experience!!)

Stupid question number one..... Cam belt = Timing belt, right?

I'm hoping its a belt and nothing worse as I've got a pretty limited budget for a while (quit my job, mid-life crisis at 21... career change/traveling/want a job in mechanics/cars generally, but no experience). If I run out of money this car will be garaged and worked on in my spare time and I'll drive a micra or something!

Don't suppose any of you are up in Cheshire or around there so I could test drive it round for you to have a sniff at?? Big ask I know, sorry!! nervous about buying it incase you couldn't tell.

Did some more research and saw that they reckon only 350 or so had those problems and it was actually late '89 so I'm not so worried...

sorry for wall of text

Thanks Gary,

The patience admittely is something I know I'm going to have to improve on, but thats part of the pointing of getting one. If i do what i've always done i'll get what i've always got. At least thats what I think.

Can you let me know what is particularly expensive about them? I've seen a lot of people say they're particularly expensive, but the replacement parts I've been looking up don't seem too far over the odds. Is it the HICAS and other things like that? Are they really that much more expensive than doing the same thing with any other similar type of car?

I mean a re-build, for example, of any V6 engine is going to be in the same ball park as most others isn't it? Maybe a few hundred different? Could be very wrong with this assumption I know.

Really appreciate all the advice thank you chaps

Ok ime here....I could be tempted to lower the price for a hassle free sale. You seriously need to look and take a ride in my ZX matey as the 1st 2 minutes you,ll be reaching for your money:cool3:. taxed/MOT and needs no work whatsoever mate as ive just spent the last 6 months working on it. Its had a cambelt and all the idle pullys..front and rear crank seals...water pump..massive side mount intercoolers..BOVS (apexi)...extra oil coolers...big front brake disk (350Z) upgrade.. uprated radiator..the list goes on and all with less than 200 miles. send me a text and ile call you straight back. .
