If somebody has already put in a bid that's higher than your bid then the bid will increase to an amount that beats you. This will carry on until you outbid everyone. Just like ebay.

HTH

If you have the Ebay app (assuming it's Ebay you're using) you receive an instant alert on your phone, so it's very possible the other bidder has just bid a higher amount, though probabaly not if it was seconds....possible though.

As Steams stated, its called a proxy bid, where the system will automatically bid upto your highest amount entered, so if someone wants an item and lets say, think its worth £100 to them and the bidding starts at £20, whatever amount you put in as a bid on the same item, will automatically outbid you up to the highest bid placed by the first bidder, in this case £100, so you would have to bid £101 or whatever increment set at the time to win the item.

You would have been bidding against someone mate - but someone who placed a much higher maximum bid than you expected; so you had to go higher than his maximum to win it...

Like Graham said, say you bid £20, but someone else entered a bid of £100. Each time you increase your bid, "his" will automatically increase to just above yours until you exceed the £100 - example; "his" bid will be £21 - so you enter £30, then "his" automatically becomes £31 - so you bid £40 and so on. Until you reach £101.... Exactly like Ebay!!

The auction facility is a new idea on the forum - so we will monitor all feedback; positive and negative, to determine whether it is a good idea and if we should keep it. I am pleased you won the item, but understand why you might not have had such a positive experience; early days yet though mate and thanks for your comments - and sorry it wasn't a good one for you:flowers:

Peace out man:wink:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
