Which exhausts make the best sound for the LWB tt z?

I was thinking about this, I have a mongoose quad exit exhaust, while I really like the look of it, it doesn't quite have the noise at low revs

I agree, the mongoose sounds pretty pants on idle, too 'fluffy' is a word is use to describe it. It sounds too much like 2 1.5L 3 cylinder engines then a V6 warble. You could replace it but I think with the addition of a balance pipe such as a H or X and possibly a delete of the resonators before the back boxes, it may unlock a nicer noise from it.

I've been meaning to modify mine with a H pipe so would be interested in the results. Otherwise, exhaust like the veilside evolution seem to unlock one of the nicest warbles, a lot of the other options are either too loud and too tinny/raspy (or both). Good luck finding a vs evolution though! If you have decats, try linking them with a H first to see if it changes the note.

I have just fitted a mongoose i have not driven the car yet but i have been in a tt z with the mongoose system and i like the way at low revs you cant hear it but you can when your stonking it best of both worlds i used to love loud systems but over the years i have come to hate them

the japspeed i had before made a nice sound i mite add

Something custom will make a good sound.

The problem with custom and cheap don't really come together.

Depending on how dense a silencer is pack and with what material, you can change the sounds quite a bit.

But that is a bit of an art as you have to do a lot of trail and error to find the "right" density to make the right noise.

I'm way off listening to the exhaust. But that does sound like a good thing to try as I love the way it looks, just needs a bit more at low revs

what about the mongoose with no cats ?

what about the mongoose with no cats ?

That's how I had it set up on the silver machine before

the tt i went in with the mongoose still had the cats and i liked it i will be removing my cats soon what changes did it make to yours after cat removel

Just the basics, ecu boost controller and air filter.

But that was A while a go, as I had a slight accident in it

no what changes in sound did it make after cat removel with the mongoose system unless you fitted decats and mongoose system at the same time. in that case you wouldn't know ?

I've heard almost all 'off the shelf systems'. There are only 3 out there that I highly rate. Sure, one of them is the one I have on my car, the Veilside Evolution. Refined, but deep and exotic looking. It's well know that it makes one of the nicest sounds and is highly sort after. Also, the ABFlug system is as good. It sounds fantastic and has a similar note to the Veilside system. Then there's the B&B system from the states. A bit louder and slightly less refined, but it has a very good note and is probably the best looking system out there.

Over rated are: HKS Hypers and single exhaust systems.

Avoid: ALL Powerflow products.

The Japspeed system isn't too bad for a readily available inexpensive system and it doesn't sounds reasonably refined.

i agree powerflow are total shit my old z3 had a power flow system blow the back boxes 3 times in less than a year burn all the packing out and killed the resonator on he back box loads of shit. in the end a guy build my a system using long life boxes there wire picked and had no issue with them

Indeed, they are truly appalling. I've never seen a nice system, they all look tatty after a year on the car. Before I knew my shit, I had one fitted to a car in my early 20s. It was a V6 converted Astra and there wasn't anything on the market that was off the shelf, so all I had at my disposal was to have something custom made up. Just shockingly bad materials, cheap baffles. The whole thing was complete dog turd, but it served a purpose.

Only too happy to oblige Dan hope you enjoyed it. sounds like your cars coming along nicely. I like my mongoose system as you point out only loud when you press the loud pedal, just how i like it.

I had Kakimoto twins on a previous twin turbo, that screamed and sounded awesome

They're slightly lighter, but that's a poor excuse for downgrading. Dave's car is full of ICE and bodykit (a nice), but pointless buying weight saving parts. lol

Had a look at Funkysi 's and birds exhaust, not liking the look of them much. Like the quads too much I think to change them. Might try and take the centre box's off or something

Unless I made some custom ones coming out of the bonnet, that would look cool

I agree quad looks much better
