So, went to fit my NA radiator into my turbo shell.

It doesn't fit of course...

So I need a turbo one, and I was about to buy one from Ebay.

Can I just confirm that there aren't any variations of turbo radiator?

Last thing I need is another that doesn't fit!

Different ones for auto and manual due to the autobox oil cooler

Cheers, do you know what the difference is? Just my turbo shell had an oil cooler, which I removed, but that suggests it was an auto originally, even though it had a regular gear stick...so maybe converted at some point.

For the extra few quid, go splurge on an aftermarket alloy rad. Is it necessary? Not entirely. Will it give you peace of mind and a greater ability to absorb the unforseen? Yes. The stock rads are old now, so the chances of picking up one that's fully clean and unblocked without any damage and able to keep up it's duties is less likely.

The locating pins at the bottom of a TT rad are further apart than an N/A. I am currently making a bracket to fit a TT into an NA.

I actually have an NA radiator, thought I was going mad when it was too long. What everyone is saying about an aftermarket alloy radiator makes a sense, but I think the cheapest I found was £120, which is pushing it a little, especially with everything else I need. I don't need it right now, just would have been nice to get the engine started in the new shell....I'll see what happens. Cheers!

Just use a second hand (give it a good flush) tt rad in the tt shell then. The oil cooler inbuilt in auto rads is simply a self contained loop, leaving the take offs open will have no bearing. So you can use either in your manual car. Are you putting an na engine in a tt shell?

Yep, I've put a NA engine, from my rotten NA, into a turbo shell (see my top link below).

I wasn't sure about the oil cooler, but figured it didn't matter.

I have to admit the alloy radiators look really nice, and strong, but at this point it will have to be a future mod! :)

The radiator turned up today, and it's compleley metal (I thought it looked metal when I ordered it), and is in excellent condition.

I am pleased!

That was a good deal, and yes it is a spurious manufactured one to oem dimensions. The bonus is they are all metal so no fragile plastic hose outlet issue's.

These are better than fitting an old original one to be fair but new cost can often be close to an alloy one so looking shopping around is essential.
