Tapping sound from camshaft pulleys - urgent help needed 91 N/A

Hi all,

My friend has bought a 300zx JDM 3.0 N/A manual, and in less than a week the car struggles to start and seems to make a nasty sound from under the belt covers (i think on exhaust cam sides)

Seen a video online where the belt was shaking and jumping causing it to do so... could that be the reason??

What can be done? what could it be? how much would it cost? and who would you recommend in southampton?

Any advice would be more than appreciated!

I would be taking the belt covers off and checking the tension of the timing belt, you could have a failed hydraulic tensioner causing the belt to be loose possibly causing slipped teeth .

Ok had a closer look today,

Seems like the belt is loose as hell...

Watch "300zx loose belt" on YouTube - 300zx loose belt: http://youtu.be/mohiCeGI2PE

Needs a new belt with all of the tensioners?? Who would you recommend in southampton??

Do not start the engine again until repaired.

Looks like the belt tensioner swing arm has seized, this does not mean new replacement though they can be refurbished at a fraction of the cost of new.

Speak to MJP (http://www.mjpauto.co.uk) Should be able to get the waterpump for that too. There's also another tensioner also, from memory that could do with being replaced. If you get anywhere else, just makes sure it's the Gates belt....genuine OEM waterpump too, not aftermarket.

400-500 for the belt with a new tensioner etc... good price?

Japtech southampton

does that include the other 2 idler pullys that should also be checked out
