is this too far gone to use or re machine?

Difficult to say if its too far gone from the photo. It would need to be measured with a micrometer to determine if it can be reground

looks ok you from the pic you can sand it down with fine sand paper yourself and feel for that smooth surface or i usually run my nail over it and can tell how much more needs doing. alternatively measure it and get it regrind/polished.

 

 

if you watch the first few minutes of the video you'll see him scratching. the video should provide some light for your decision

A good indication iff a reground is needed is rub a 2p piece across the journal...iff the surface picks up a trace of the coin then it needs machining:wink:
