Hi guys,so i got my timing belt done and started the car and it is running well,but after around 10 minutes the water in the rad is mad hot and starts frothing the water and pushing it out of the top of the rad(cap off),and on the temperature it is staying at the 1/4 mark ,the car was lying for 4 years,but i didnt let the water out until i did the T-belt last week.Which do guys think is gone the water pump or the head gasket.Any help would be great.Thanks guys

Also guys i tested the stat on boiling water before i put it back in and it was opening and closing

seems that you done the timing belt you drained most of your water out the engine

 

i'd say u most likely to have trapped air in the system ..

 

Make sure you on flat ground or with the front tilted up a little

 

Pour in the water slow with the engine running .. when it reaches temp

switch off and leave for 20 mins and then restart and fill again

may take u a few fills before the air is out the system

Could you have an air lock?

I would also say you trapped air.

The procedure recommended and one I and many use is to jack the front of the car up as high as possible. The heater on full heat. This will allow air to rise to the front and clear the air block. It's easy done trapping that air esp in the heater matrix and rear of the heads.

Yea might be guys,as the water level seemed to drop every 2 minutes or so,i forgot to mention that 5 years ago a new water pump went into the car.

Yea guys i think it is traped air,i went out and the turned on the heater temp gauge was a small bet less than 1/4 way and nothing but cold air,Added more water and then i got warm air

;) winner. Park on a really steep hill on a cold engine and run it up with the rad cap off watch the water level drop lol. Must be a stone cold engine though, hot engine bad idea. In fact don't do its dangerous, even if it does work lol.

Me too.....

 

......run the engine with the heater on full temp and loosen the little cross-head plastic screw on the opposite side of the radiator to the cap (before the engine is up to operating temp), to let out the air bubbles. Tighten it back up then go for a decent drive; let the engine cool back down, then remove the rad cap and the little plastic screw and top up once again. Don't forget to top up the expansion reservoir either....

i recone your losing water on the exhast side in the head , but only a tiny leak, you could proberly run for a week or a month or 6 until ot gets worse to a point of getting bigger then itll let go. the reason i think you have no heat in car is because the water fluid isnt high enough until you fill it up again. im surjesting you have a gas test done and dont travle without water on boared. keep an eye on the fluid level and check your heater every trip, if its running low the heater will not put out hot air. that said i could be wrong and i hope i am. good luck pale
