So, put more of my Zed back together today, I reattached my starter motor, and connected the plug cable, but can't remember what to attach here -

I guess it has to be an earth?

Assuming it is, I think what I might have done is bolt the bracket to the gearbox, where the earth is meant to bolt to.

Anyone know?

You have your main feed from the battery and the smaller gauge wire is for/from the ignition switch which attaches to that bolt pictured, you must have another wire hanging somewhere, black/yellow from the relay, may be part of the alternator harness, its been a while lol

Why is there blood all over the starter motor? From all those scraped knuckle jobs?

I think I may have accidentally connected the negative to the chassis where the gearbox bolts at the back, I thought the wire felt out of place at the time; when I did this. I suppose there has to be a large positive cable from the battery, but I have no memory of it, and nothing lying around that looks familiar - time to look through some boxes! Cheers!

As for the red - there's a sort of red theme going on under the car, so it makes sense when under there. I was only meant to paint the starter motor shield....but got carried away! :D

Great,

I have tomorrow off to work on the car....but it's meant to pour down....

So hopefully I'll get over and check it out.

I think I made a mental note of all this...but that was two years ago.

That looks like the one the square bit with the plastic bit goes and connects up nicely on the starter iirc pretty sure I did the exactly the same head scratching moment.

Well, I've been utterly confused today! Went through all my boxes, and my original rotten Zed, which is full of various bits....no cable to be seen. (I also can't find my ECU!)

I kept everything organised when I dismantlement my original Zed, and kept the ECU separate to 'keep it safe', which makes it worse!

Anyway, I checked the engine, and both the negative and positive battery connectors are there. So I thought, if the positive connector is there, then that has to go down to the starter. However, it didn't matter how hard I looked I couldn't find it.

So, had a look through some old pics, to see where that cable / harness goes, and I've found it -

So it is there, I'm NOT crazy! Where it is, that's another story, I think perhaps it's trapped further up somewhere.

It could be lying on top the gearbox?

Possibly, but I just put the gearbox back on, so would, or should have noticed. I will find it, likely through contortion and pain!

Well you have one end of it lol, it's only a case of chasing the wires. Dorothy followed the yellow brick road lol....
