Guys as we all know the GTO boys have always looked at our cars with envy :) Anyway there are some good guys in their community and I have been discussing ten of the best with a few of them and I have challenged them to a team competition. Yes there will be some big power cars but mostly it will be normal guys with a few mods looking to have a bit of fun. We are thinking a maximum of 8 entries per team to count to the points and we feel that to help it work we will allow Saturday times to count on the 1/4 and top speed run. This means if you only want to do boot camp you will still be part of the team (not handling as the course changes each day).

We are also thinking each entry to donate £10 into the pot and the winning team gets all the money for the charity of their choice. There is also optional £5 head to head pairs if anyone wants it but we will need to clarify fully later. The GTOOC charity is 'justgiving' and we can choose ours if this forum doesn't currently support one. For myself I already support help for heroes but am happy to go along with the rest.

I will share this on my facebook page and will keep the page updated with details.

Have a good think about this guys it's an opportunity to try your hand at 3 disciplines for very little money and see which of our cars is the best all rounder. I often see people suggesting that the zed gets very little respect from the rest of the community and this is a chance to show them how good this car can be. I really do think it will be a great weekend if we can get a decent team together. Yes I will be focussing on doing well but this will help to make it fun as well.

I will be there for the full weekend and can sort out details with Dave Naxton. I would truly like this to work and am more than happy to arrange the event however I would not be able to provide much support on the day. I think we could set up a team area to compete with the best so I am confident we can make it a brilliant weekend.

Yes it's early but can you start thinking about it now and any feedback/offers of help/entries will be appreciated.

So it's now only 52 days till ten of the best and it's time to put our entry in certainly within the next two weeks. I have already told the organisers we have a team and they're happy. I spoke to Dave and the best way to join is on the following link

http://straightliners-events.co.uk/event/events/ten-of-the-best/ten-of-the-best/ten-of-the-best-26th-27th-july-2014/ten-of-the-best-main-event-entry.html

Once there click book and the rest is fairly straighforward. I have already joined and the team name is 300ZX Club and we are running in class B. If anyone needs any help just give me a PM and I will sort it out but please get the entries in ASAP.

Not 100% sure but I might go to Japshow and do a couple of runs up the quarter as I haven't done any yet this year however of course a lot depends on how the car shapes up over the next few weeks.

Anyone else want to join? And are all you guys still up for it?

Off topic: What power did it make with the stock turbos in the end?

looking at the injector cycle duties in detail around 520 at flywheel bud at 1.6bar

Paid up! Can I wear my race suit , I'm like a kid with a spiderman costume with that suit haha. Oh that reminds me, I have more rally stuff to put up from the Jim Clark, fortunately I was no where near the incident, I'll put it in my rally thread.

That's the way to do it :)

I spoke with Dave earlier who asked if I can give him a list of names so he can ensure we are entered correctly in the team. So I'm guessing forum names might not be enough ...... lol

I used tomfromthenorth as a straightliners username, but also put Tom Wilson on another bit of the form. Thanks again for sorting this out :thumbup1:

That's a good idea I also used my forum name. I will give him the forum names for now and if everyone can use this forum name as the straightliners one too it will keep it nice and simple :)

Is there a deadline for registerin/paying? I'm on it for sure but can't pay up for a few weeks and don't want to miss the boat on this 1.

Cheers

There is no real deadline as far as I know but really I guess at least a couple of weeks before the event would be latest. Let me know if you're struggling and I will check with Dave.

Ok thanks for that. Should be ok in a few weeks. Just a bit tight at the minute. Can't wait fir this though. Could be the start of club wars at totb. Other than the evo vs Subaru of coarse.

Cheers

Danny

Ill register once i get paid end of the month. Can definitely only do Sunday now.

  • 3 weeks later...

Registered this morning. Happy days, can't believe how cheap it is for such an event. Had a full respray since last year,so may not be any quicker but certainly look better. Any idea what time we have to arrive Sunday morning by the way?

Looking forward to this now, just hope we get the weather, or there's no point against 4wd.

Cheers

Danny

Ill just be up for the day.. going to be a bit tight on whether Ill actually have my car completed... ill just have to cheer you Guys on..

Here's an interesting 1. A friend of mine with a rather tasty Z wants to join us on the totb team. Called Neil from Chorley with a yellow kitted Z (veilside I think) and in the region of 580bhp. Thinks he's got the td06,s. he isn't a member on here, does he need to sign up here, then join the team on straightliners or can he just enter and join us there. He's been in 2 minds about entering but when I told him it's against the gto boys he was in.

What you guys think, he's a nice guy and has an amazing Z. Plenty of show and go. Be a worthy addition.

Also can't seem to find a sign on time in the site.

Cheers

Some of you may know I had a shakedown the other night, the video is just uploading to YouTube now. 8 launches and a few handling tests. It's gona be... 70 minutes :-(. If you guys are up that late I will link it here later on. Bob and everyone else I look forward to your feedback.

2 big things though, I know it could do with a map and that was perhaps unwise, but It was a very good opportunity to practice and the only chance I will have before the event. I found it surprisingly difficult and I am really glad I did. There were flames so it can't be running that lean and it ran a 21 psi for 2000 miles by accident so it's a brave little engine.

I get a bit of understeer, not catastrophic but I am wondering if my front is too soft. All other variables aside and talking purely damping on the miester Rs. It is 25/30 stiff on the rear and 7/30 stiff on the front. It drives really well but is just on the understeery side of 4 wheel slide. Any advice here too please.

:)

I'm running 12 front 18 rear on miesters and at that I think it is still a bit soft on the front for spirited driving even only for road use, isnt 13 the equivilent of standard suspension?

I have tweaked over my ownership to get it neutral/ keen to rotate, and predictable. I was nearly there but the k sports and AC delete have made it that bit understeery. It can only be that trail braking is a bit less effective because the bias is well forward atm, the front axle has more unsprung mass and inertia and the centre of gravity has gone aft. I was under the impression that a stiff tail and soft nose would get it speaking my language, but I am now wondering if it is too soft nosed and the front tyres aren't sharing the work evenly under load. I will stiffen it 5 clicks in a couple of weeks, but I have grounded myself because I went a bit hot into a bend on the road and I haven't done that in years, I broke one of my rules so I'm driving like a chauffer atm.

And Gary, thank you :) I'm not sure just how allowed that all was, the boss said in a casual manner why don't you practice on the pan but what I heard was "Tom... I, Air Traffic, the Station Commander and the Queen have no problem with you hooning about all over dispersal leaving so many black marks that it looks like a spirograph artwork on spot 2."

Yes of course he can join the team. Get him to enter an indicate he's a member of the team let me know his name so I can confirm with the organisers.

Great video Tom and it all looks good. You need to keep it on boost which will mean riding the clutch. Dumping the clutch is Ok with an NA but won't work with turbos. I thought the launches looked pretty good and practice makes perfect so they say :) There will 'probably' be more grip at the event so there is the risk of bogging down and losing boost but once again it's all about practice. And of course the handling looked pretty good too :)

can't help you with the set up but for drag you need a softer rear which helps prevent spinning up too much
