Just got a new expansion tank for my 300 and it's quite dirty as you can see from the picture.

I have tried cleaning it with washing up liquid and warm water and soaking it but didn't really work then tried washing powder and warm water and letting it soak overnight lifted some of the dirt and grime but still could be better so I’m asking if any of you know any little tips or trick's to get it looking like new?

Have a look at Janitol plus also. (e bay)

I am actually doing the same myself, I think I will need to add sand to the mix so as to help agitate the internal discolouration.

I like the vinegar idea, I would like to try this myself.

Feedback please.

Check out Micro Mesh and plastic polish. It's designed for plastics and acrylics and you can get a really smooth finish. Amazon has a kit and its cheap. It's also very handy for scratches and for metal polishing. Used it for years in the aircraft engineering industry.

Thanks for the ideas!

I will give the coke vinegar and bicarbonate soda first as i can pop up shop to get them and give them a go :)

Looks like tar spots. Use Tardis or similar.

I think he's more concerned on the brown shit inside!

Hi Raymond, on most of the cars I have had over the years with dirty internal water overflow bottles is to do the following.

Block off any outlets with insulation tape leaving the main opening and then quarter fill the bottle with clean course river sand and a good squirt of concentrated detergent (I use Handy Andy, not sure if you get that in the UK) and then fill with water up to half the container volume. Block off main opening with your hand or tape and shake it like a martini and watch those muscles develop.

Always works for me.

Bicarbonate of soda or coke.

Coke syrup (soda steam style) is what is used to clean inside tankers and lorries, takes the rust off metal too so I heard lol

I'd guess that this is mainly rust staining, so I would try some sort of acid, battery if you have nothing else, brick acid perhaps, plumbers pipe acid - anything like that really.
