I passed my DAS about 2yrs ago now but have yet to buy my own first bike.

I did spent a month riding around Vietnam/Cambodia on a Honda GL160 and borrowed my mate's Honda CBR600 for about 6mths and wuold say after 2mths I was a little bored by it.

I'm now considering buying a used bike in time for the summer. It would only be used for pleasure, would be parked outside and more than anything is a way to build up my bike NCD.

My question is - what bike would you recommend? I have been looking at the Honda CBR600s but wary of getting borted of it again. There are quite a few older GSXR600s and ZX6s but the internet is mixed on whether either of those would be 'safe' for me to ride.

I'd say I'm a fairly competent rider and had no issues in the 6mths I was on the CBR. I don't want a full on race bike but something that will suit my needs but keep me excited from time to time.

Any suggestions from the bikers amongst you? Not sure about budget yet but let's say £2k for now....

Why should you get flamed its a Fireblade doesn't get much better than that.

Because in summary of what I wrote above the largest bike I've ridden to date is a CBR600F so figured I'd get told off for going too large too soon!

Took it out for another quick spin today and my smile is even bigger..if that's even possible!

No way a 600 is pretty quick and it's a natural progression. Have fun and enjoy it. The very best way to find the limits of you and your bike is to do a couple of trackdays and Brands isn't so far from you is it?

Brands Hatch is very close indeed. Hadn't even crossed my mind! I'm still recovering from shoulder surgery so don't want to push it too much just yet (me or the bike) but certainly something to bear in mind over the summer!

I managed to take a couple more pics before the sun went down last night...

If you book a track day at brands, if love to bring the zed down for a blat too Vig. Not sure if they have mixed bike/car days though?

I may look into it over the summer Joel but I'd be torn between taking the bike and the Zed!! Shame I can't chuck the bike in the boot!

Lol

gsxr 750 . power great handling and keeps a good resale price if you don't like it. Very good if your going 2 up as well. Ive had five GSXR 750's after A KAWASKI 400 zxr, HONDA cbr, bmw tourer 1200 but have gone back to the gsxr. cant beat them in my opinion and they have a bit more torque to get you out of danger than the 600 but cheaper to insure then the 1000.

Best of luck whatever you purchase but be carefull of car drivers!!!

Lol....:confused1:

I've already bought the Fireblade! Took it out for a proper ride today for about an hour...very interesting ride!

Best of health to enjoy the blade, a good choice and again it'll hold its price as they have a good following too. Bit soft under braking but just upgrade front springs and oils in the forks and that remedies that. Mate of mine races one on the road circuits and that's always the first thing he advises anyone to do. but as a I said, be very weary of car drivers. Unless you bike, you don't get to see who stupid some drivers can be.

Id 100% recommend doing a trackday or 2.

Ive only been riding for just over a year now, started on a600 Bandit, then bought a Brand new Street Triple R, then bought a GSXR 1000 for a bit of fun.

Done 2 trackdays on the Gsxr and have another booked at the end of this month. Mallory 31st If anybody fancies it? No limits Trackdays - £100ish

That's a lot of bikes in just a year! Cheers for the track tip...definitely something I need to look into.

Edit: Just checked Brands and they don't have any bike track days on a weekend...at all. Don't know what people do for a living that allows them to just head to the track during the week but clearly keeping these guys in business!

Im not as bad at buying stuff as i used to be.

I wanted to do Donington but i couldn't find it at a weekend. Luckily i had a couple of days off at easter and no limits had Donny on the tuedsay!

Check no limits trackdays website. Clearly set out for dates or tracks etc

WARNING - Its addictive!
