whats the best to use just a under seal or a stone chip or both I have not done undersealing before so please some one point me the rite way to go about this

Undersealing is a bitch of a job, and creates a right mess. I did it once (using Waxoyl) and will never do it DIY again.

 

Most good performance garages or import specialists would do you it for £150-£200.

I need to do mine soon, it's off up to JM Imports to get it done.

am only doing the rear as the sub frame is off just spoke to a gay from dinitrol says to use underseal under the car and stone chip in the wheel arches and cavity wax were ther are places you cant reach. be nice to the cavity max in the sills. maybe dril a few very small holes and spray it in

I used dinitrol stonechip, in the arches and under the car, And dinitrol cavity wax inside the sills and box sections.

 

If you use wax oil it never dries so every time your under it its gonna be messy...

 

I even done subframes in stonechip, paint or powder coat will chip.

 

And stone chip I can just keep spraying bits in if they did get scratched off.

 

powder coated subframe is gonna look crap if you scrape it up...

yes am going with underseal and stone chip in the wheels arche the sub frame going powder coat satin back. I think stone chip on the subframe looks very un tidy sorry I know you did this seen the the pic your car looks spot on every were but the stone chip on the sub frame lets it down

I agree powder coat looks much better but....were see in a couple of years who's looks better lol...

the car hardly gets used atall am taking 200 miles a year if that so it will be fine will post pics when am done and you tell what you think.... how did you get the cavity stuff in sills did you drill holes ?

I wouldnt use wax oil underneath or you will have to keep applying it and every time you work on it your get the stuff all over you...

It comes with a lance I pulled carpets back, and took rear cards off.

Careful where you do it cause it will run out the sills over your block paving lol...

is drilling little holes a option I can just weld em up after or is the way you said the way to go

Don't drill holes and weld them back up, it will burn. Undo the screws on the sill kick plates and just pull the carpet back, there's loads of holes to feed the lance in.

Just undersealed all mine again it is messy but well worth doing,I put a small amount of standard thinners in the tin thinning it down a little helps to get it on I found.

I have skirts so I am thinking of drilling holes right at the bottom so I can just put it on a ramp at work and squirt it in...

If you do them out of sight it shouldn't be a problem,

 

Take the front arch liners out and at the front of seal theres a big grommet pull that out and u can get a long the seals.

And has above kick plates off and theres loads of places to get in there...

the stone chip looks great I have to say. am using it in the arches but I have a tub of under seal with added wax oil so need to use it up don't want to waste it the guy I spoke to said proper underseal is better than stone chip for under that car but the stone chip looks much better

If you only plan on low miles in the dry during summer then you could just stone chip and overpaint it. That's what I did with mine and it does look really nice underneath. Wouldn't advise it if you plan to use it in wet or winter weather obviously.

Big old job to do tho by the looks i know its all worth while but im lazy so wouldfind a garage who would be willing to do it lol

Is there an all-weather product?

Either of them are all weather really, it's just that if you car is gonna see water or salt then you really want to give the best protection you can and go with underseal.

My car never moves in the rain now, let alone gritted roads etc which is why I decided not to underseal and just used stone chip.

You will still want to stone chip at least arch area etc before underseal.

here is my underside, i too will only be using it on dry summer days, so i went for a paint. Will see how it fares in the arches with stonechips but its fairly thick stuff

 

 

Ignore the caliper it was there to test fit the brake line :laugh: ....And the scab in the bottom left, i missed it intentionally ;)

A tip: I would use a product called FE-123 / Rustbuster in the sills first. Also came out best in test in a uk classic magazine monthly. You can mix it 50/50 with distilled water and spray it in the sills. take a look at http://www.rust.co.uk/products/category/28125/fe-123-rust-converter/

The best underseal is the factory stuff on VWs and Audis. Is thick and rubbery, off white in colour and can be painted over. It is available from VW dealers and is less than £10. Much better than Schutz and stone chip

Bilt Hamber do an excellent cavity wax, comes in a huge aerosol with a 500 mm lance as well as 1ltr for gun application. 3M do excellent cavity wax in aerosol or 5ltr tin. Dinitrol cavixty wax is also very good. Waxoyl is not so easy to apply effectively but its better than nothing and does give some protection

 

I have used all of the above over the years. Good luck with your choice- wear a mask! It's all poison!
