before i replaced the rear lights, the right indicator would blink rapidly as if a bulb was burnt, upon inspection the right rear bumper side light was off. left side ok. so on the weekend i replaced just the brake lights and installed the third brake light and its now rapidly blinking for left and right, ive checked all the lights and they light up. low beam, high beam, fogs, rear brake lights and all four indicators including the rear side bumper lights. cant figure out why its still blinking fast.

any ideas?

Do they flash normally when using 4 way flashers ( hazard) do you have led bulbs fitted in front or rear?

Has your dash bulb blown?

no dash bulbs gone

haven't tried the hazard as its disconnected and the rears are complete leds apart from the third brake light, i had a feeling it would be the leds but didn't see why it would do that, fronts are standard bulbs

if you got l.e.d bulbs in you need to change the relay over for l.e.d s as thay will flash fast to double check put standard bulbs in and if thay work fine that's your problem

LEDs draw a MUCH smaller current than incandescent bulbs, therefore there's not enough current to correctly switch the relay which will subsequently flash fast as it acts as if as bulb has blown.

thanks will give them a check and is there a specific relay? and where about is it located?

thanks so it pretty much is that

If he's running LEDs, he'll need to wire in load resistors rather than replace a functioning relay. You can get error-free canbus LED bulbs which have the load resistors pre-wired into them.

Relays can be picked up for a few quid from eBay.

any type? all im finding are for motor cycles, will they do the job?

For the brake lights yes.

For indicators replacing the relay will work.

Got a link for that resistor Spin Doctor?

The + and - pins are wrong way round, so needs to be wired like shown above to fit.

There is a UK supplier now who sells relays with correct + and - for our cars. I can't find the link though. I know the price is about £15 for the UK supplied one.

FOund it, and they've dropped in price: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=flasher+relay&rt=nc&LH_PrefLoc=1

This should be a direct plug in. (I hold no responsibility for being wrong!)

And this just replaces the one in the engine bay? What about the fronts? They're not led. Does that matter?

It's not in the engine bay.

It's in drivers footwell, above the brake pedal arm.

This controls all the indicators. It'll work fine with or without LED bulbs in the indicators.

If you get that one, you will need to fit it like this:

http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?133770-led-flasher-mod

Which is what Spin Doctor did on the last page (kinda).

If you buy this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fix-Flash-Rate-Turn-Signal-Flasher-Relay-LED-indicator-bulbs-3-PIN-CF14-JL-02-/290726947765?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43b0ad2bb5

It should directly plug in as the pins are the correct way round.

As a point of note about your earlier post.....these are not resistors. It is a relay. Generally fitting these will mean if one of your indicator bulbs blows you wouldn't get the fast flash to indicate it.

It won't do anything for your brake lights if you are having issues with those. These are for your indicators only.

So if I opt this route I wouldnt need the relay and apart from cost difference will these error free canbus leds still allow for warning indication for a dead bulb?
