Hi all - hopefully a simple question!

 

I am aware that the Fuel ECU in an NA and TT is different (2 stages of pump activity vs 3, more fuel etc).

 

So, my question is this - if I install an NA ECU that has been fitted with a TT chip (from z1) to my TT, will the Fuel ECU and ECU play nicely and the pump run correctly? I think the answer should be yes - but my engine is not revving properly and sound like its being fuel starved. Im trying to rule out the obvious stuff (like fitting a different ECU!) as I investigate further...

On TT Swaps

When converting your NA to a TT, there are two optional routes one must take in regards to fuel pump control.

Install a TT pump, but continue to use an NA FPCU. You must also socket the ECU and install an EPROM which is programmed for a swap, as an NA ECU doesn't have the fuel/ignition maps for forced induction, and a TT ECU would try to control the three-speed FPCU which doesn't exist/doesn't have wiring. A TT ECU also tries to control wastegate actuators and the two-speed cooling fan, both of which don't exist on NA models.

The NA FPCU will run the TT FPCU at higher voltage than a TT FPCU would under the same conditions, but most agree this is without ill-effects on the fuel pump, and any excess fuel is dealt with by the fuel pressure regulator.

Install a TT pump, TT FPCU, TT ECU, and TT body harness (or run a wire from the ECU to the FPCU harness to supply voltage for the third speed).

 

In general, you should not install a TT ECU in an NA without running the wiring for it and using a TT FPCU, as a TT ECU will try to utilize the third fuel pump speed, which doesn't exist. To a TT FPCU, "speed 1" is 6V, "speed 2" is 7V, and "speed 3" is battery voltage. To an NA FPCU, "speed 1" is 8V, "speed 2" is battery voltage, and "speed 3" is "who are you? what? where am I?"

Sorry to bump a thread a little old I have been looking for some concrete info as to if you can run a stock ecu, with no fbcpu just with the pump hardwired at 12v?

yes, you can.

 

pump will be noisy and wear out faster though.

Have you fitted a TT fuel pump?

I am currently running a TT ECU with a NA fuel ECU and a walbro 255 pump....... on my NA to TT conversion......

I have just socketed the NA ECU ready for setting up with a TT mapped chip..... will be running the NA fuel ECU with 2 speed settings and finally fitting a TT fuel pump when I get it......

From what I have been told it needs the extra wire adding on a NA loom to get the 3 speed TT ECU to run the fuel pump using a TT ECU....

I was told the TT ECU can run a NA fuel ECU but only runs at 2 speeds......

All I have is a tt ecu, engine loom. Nothing else. So all I was going to do was put a tt fuel pump in, with a relay and hardwired 12v supply. So it just gets a on and off signal I'm guessing the fuel pressure regulator will look after keeping the fuel pressure correct, I imagine the stages are just to deliver more fuel at higher rpm? As the car is basically for the track. Hardwiring with no fuel should save weight and wiring complex and reduce fault finding in future.
