Hi guys,

think Ive just bought a lemon. Had a mechanic friend lok over it and he says the head gaskets are gone. Its done 110k kms but the back pressure from driving the car just over a mile she nearly empties the rad once the caps removed. He says she should be just rippling the water and no more. Oil pressure at idle 2.5 bars rising to 3.5 to 4 driving..

is she knackered??

got a set of plugs today and was been given a standard set of ngk the computer listed(2.50 each). Then gave him the part number Gary gave me and they had those too at (£7 each) so got both sets to be able to return the other. see which ones tmy guy wants to use.

Such a difference in price. thank goodness for accounts

Do not use the 2.50 ones please

Agreed - OEM items are platinum tipped; so around £40-£50 a set sounds about right for the proper ones:wink:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

looks like the cheap ones are being returned. I assume its the quality that makes them worth the extra. thanks guys

How are you getting on? Just food for thought, pay good attention to the wiring loom and connectors, they more than likely have become brittle (be careful unplugging them) or the connections corroded with green crap, well worth cleaning all the connections you can get to, if you have running issues it is a good place to start. Or, if you are able, replace the wiring loom for a new one, best thing I ever did, cured many problems and I have peace of mind for many years.

can a new loom still be got for them, and if so does anyone know where and the cost?

Do not use the 2.50 ones please

Yes Derek return the cheap ones as your engine will not like them and spit them out mate

Come on now people, it's the part number that is important, not the price :hammer:

The VG runs perfectly well on £2.50 NGK copper plugs (assuming they're the correct type of course, typically BKR*E). The OEM ones are platinum so the plug service interval is 60k as opposed to 10k. They are specifically designed for the VG30DETT cylinder head, the BKR*E range of both copper & iridium are only a tiny bit shorter. It's not the quality, it's the one-off design & longevity you paid for. Conversely, the 'cheaper' plugs actually work out more expensive in the long term.

Best to keep it at stock boost on the platinums. You shouldn't gap them, so you're stuck with the stock 1.1mm gap, and they're a heat range 6. They are indeed the OEM plug for a brand new stock Zed and will work perfectly. The others would have worked too...

The plugs in my Zed cost about a tenner all in and are quite different to the OEM design (~2mm less projected). They create a spark when I tell them to and allow me to run at 1.7 bar without risk of preignition. They don't foul, there are no misfires, it always starts perfectly and I get 17-28mpg with a slushbox. No one would ever know the shocking truth! Sure, I could pay £150+ for 6x NGK R7436-8 race plugs to do exactly the same job for possibly 5 times as long, but I don't know why I would ever want to :wack:

Platinum does not mean better quality. A spark is a spark. It simply makes that spark for longer in a stock vehicle. If you have to choose a long-life plug, it may as well be iridium at any rate.

Noel I need you to tune my car, stock boost with 0.8mm gap it boosts to red line but over fuels on the over run and the stock gap stops the smoke but then I get preingniton. Pisses me off. Can we discuss costings and time please. Think I should be ready end of April?

as an FYI I now run the grade 8 copper plugs per Noel's recommendation. No issues and great performance
