Ooooh listen Ebenezer Scrooge there !!!

Agreed though people do go OTT with enough food to see out the blitz, personally I only buy stuff on offer from supermarkets 365 days of the year.

I notice if you go out for Xmas lunch they charge you £45 a head for 63 little piddling courses, when at any other time of the year, at that very same venue you can get a roast dinner for a fraction of that .

was waiting for the scrooge know some one was going to say that but it really isn't like that I just see if what it really is a big arse con spent all ye money and get stressed out doing it its far to fake for me buy people a load of shit that you only see once a year and sending cards its pure bull shite its most raw form

well trained good man:yes:

even the sales I wont go its mayhem am out form now on 100% infact next year am going to to away just to get away from it

Agree 100%- I just wait for the Jan sales and get stuff cheap! Lol!

I remember a few years ago stupidly agreeing to get up like 5.30 am when Next was opening for some Boxing Day sale!! Bloody hell, was a total nightmare! Worse than a Saturday night in Cardiff with all the drunken idiots! It was mayhem in there :2guns:......never again for me! The internet for shopping is King! :)

I would raver dip my balls in paint stripper than going shopping

the ones swinging under my dong

I totally agree mate. Whilst I really like Christmas day itself, that's only really because I get to see my family; because my (small) family are spread over the UK, Europe and Africa, it's the only time I really get to see most of them all at once. I live over an hour away from my folks as it is. The rest of it though is hokum as I can't stand Christmas food; minced pies, Christmas Cake, Christmas pudding and Brussels sprouts literally make me wretch.

I don't want to know about Christmas in October when shops start filling their shelves with Christmas nonsense. I don't want to be getting Christmas catalogues land on my mat in the middle of the summer, I hate 'are you feeling festive' questions and other such nonsense. It's all a load of repetitive rubbish; the shops are just ridiculous (the Christmas music is even worse), the waste that gets thrown away, not just in terms of trash, but the food is plain awful. I don't like waste and food waste makes me really angry as there really is no need for it. Did you know that the amount of food thrown away every year could feed all the world's starving? I am not going to profess to be some sort of eco-warrior or whatever, but the greed and gluttony at Christmas time leaves a real sour taste in my mouth - it's also in the middle of winter and I can't stand winter!

The Christmas we know today and see around us is pretty gross IMO. It's an over indulgent billion pound enterprise based on a religious festival that few seldom take note of anymore with pagan origins. I am not religious in the slightest sense of the word, spiritual yes, but not religious and for me, the 'meaning' of Christmas is nothing more than a story (a nice one I'll add, but a story, none-the-less).

I am no scrooge at all either before you start thinking that because I really enjoy buying presents for my close family, I donate to charity and love the day itself, but the rest of it is puerile. The repetitive DREADFUL Christmas music grates on me like you have no idea - at least we don't hear Gary Glitter being piped through distorted speaker systems down every High Street anymore.

Why do people have their decorations up at the beginning of December? Some even have theirs up in November! You're expected to be 'happy and festive'. I like to be happy in my own time thank you very much, not forced to be happy JUST because it's Christmas. I am generally a really happy person, but the expectation of someone to be happy...it's all false and *****cks.

The expectation is to spend spend spend. Whilst I have the luxury of being financially comfortable, what about all those folk that don't? People do the best they can with what little they've got, but suicide rates are at their highest at this time of the year due to the pressures and strain of Christmas.

Christmas would be so nice if it was like Easter. I know that Easter stuff goes up in the shops pretty much as soon as the January sales start, but the thing I like about Easter? It's not rammed in your face 24/7 for 3 months of the year. Easter as a religious festival actually has far more significant importance also. But you're left alone at Easter pretty much in celebrating it for what it is and without the pressures that this silly time of the year has to bring.

That said, if Christmas wasn't the money making enterprise that it is today, the retail sector (which makes up a substantial part of the UK economy) would be on its arse.

....how could I forget!?!? THIS awful horrid tasteless nonsense....thankfully, none of my neighbours, or indeed anyone from the town I live in that I know of have stuff like this by them. The residential equivalent of neon lights, dump valves and ugly front bumpers.

see that's just it rammed in ye face 24/7 I hate that the most you cant get away from it

agreed...lol

Ditto....

It's only two days, like you say.... In fact, not even that as most shops nowadays reopen on Boxing Day anyway...:death:

Dead right Si...

...I am not a Christian myself - albeit I respect what it might (loosely) respect what it means to others - the whole commercialisation of Christmas has contributed to its loss of meaning over the years:sad:

It does, however, remain a nice time of the year; mainly through the nostalgic view we have of Christmas from our childhoods. Which is a good thing, as it keeps our spirits alive and gives us hope for the coming year!!

So whilst I personally do not care for Christmas in the religious sense, I shall (try to) forget about the gross over-indulgence and gross consumer-led decadence; and will still raise a glass to wish everyone I know a very Merry Christmas:cool:

Richard:thumbup:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I love it. I enjoy spoiling the mrs and all the family during Christmas. I try to give back at this time of the year, I am always being helped for the other 364 days of the year so to see them all smiling is something I'm more than happy to spend all my money on(keeping a sneaky few quid aside for another service on the zed though  ) I completely agree having Xmas rammed in your face in October is ludicrous, I work in retail so I have it worse than most. But it's the way the country is during this time. Advertising marketing and just pure business. But without this time of year and all the money generated there would be a lot less jobs flying around :) think positive and try to enjoy it.

I always think its a shame that shops open on Boxing Day. There is no need for it and even if they get paid more, it must be annoying for the people who have to go in to work.

As the kids are now older I now just cant be bothered with all the trimmings of Christmas. I reluctantly put the tree's and decorations up last week and as I type June is out facing the masses of panic buyers in the shopping centers. We got most of the presents on line as its so much less hassle. Its to commercialised now and will be glad when its all over. Merry Christmas:pint:

Agree with the over indulgence, the pressures of raising enough cash to buy presents for everyone, the fact that the true origins are no longer of interest lah di dah, but for me it is a guaranteed time of the year (when not spending it in the desert) to be with family and friends.

And let's not forget guys, this is the one time of the year when we can legitimately have new things for the ZED, inside the house on full display of the missus, without her throwing a hissy fit.

Yes, there is loads wrong with the economics of Christmas, but there are also a few positives! When else can you have a full suspension kit in your lounge and not get a *****#!ing. Bring on the 25th!!

Agreed - especially as everyone buys enough for about a month in the days leading up to Christmas; hell the shops could remain closed until January 2nd!! Trouble is, shopping seems to have become a national pastime in recent years; all led by the retailers dragging folks away from whatever else they might be doing, and into their stores. Toss [the consumers] a fish and watch them clap for more....

Totally agree. Whilst I have no kids and currently have no plans in having any, I did the bulk of my stuff online. Christmas shopping in a high-street/shopping centre environment is my idea of absolute hell. I did in fact face it today, but I got up early and drove to Bristol just to get one item for the ex-misses/misses/whatever-she-is. NO MORE!

Shopping is a necessity for me. I do it only when I have to. If I fart a hole in my pants, a pair of pants is all I'll buy. Just like going to the loo, I'm in and out as quickly as possible. I never sit on the pot!
