Well I must be missing a trick here.

How the hell are you supposed to remove the passenger headlight without taking the whole car apart??

Driving me mad!!

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

As it stands at the moment, I can't see anyway around dropping the recirculation valve just to get access to the last bolt.

Is there an easier way?

Talk about frustrating or what.

I might have a spare for that lens... and also the metal strip.... bad news is I can't have a look until next year !!!

well next week.. :) ... Thursday.. I know I've got a spare but can't remember what side.

If you can't fix it or get a replacement from anyone else PM me mid-week to remind me..

Cheers Medallion Man, :thumbup1:

I have managed to strip out the projector lens so I can clean the reflector and lens.

Good news is that the lens comes up quite nice, the bad news is that the reflectors are shot! :helpsmilie:

So would definitely appreciate your offer mate. I will pm you next week and we can sort a price out etc'

In the mean time, if there is anyone out there with some smashed/scrap lights knocking about with salvageable internals, please let me know.

I'm sure I read that brown sauce works even better

That is correct actually - Brown Sauce is as acidic as vinegar (in fact vinegar is one of the ingredients), and as it has a gloopy consistency it sticks well to the corroded metal while cleaning it

Just coat a dirty coin in Brown Sauce and leave it for 20 mins or so and you will see what I mean

HP Brown Sauce works very well - don't know about the cheap stuff you get at cheap shops lol

Rich

PS Just remembered Brown sauce is Thixotropic, not gloopy lol

Well, I have stripped both headlights now and I think the internal reflectors are all shot.

Does anyone know if these can be bought seperately as new?

Alternatively, can they be re coated?

I have tried polishing but to no avail.

I can't see why you can't get them re chromed... and no they aren't available as new separately.

I guess you have to decide if you want to buy another set it good condition or get your ones re-done..

I have a full spare set and can check them out to see how good they are.. (but you're already had a offer of a full set).

Like I said before I won't be able to check until Thursday.

Thanks again Medallion Man.

If you could check the ones you have (when you get the chance.) and let me know, that would be great.

Slightly confused though, who has offered me a full set. I think I have missed that somehow. lol

Not surprised mind, I have not been sober for a week. lol lol

I thought this was it... :) .. anything come of it??

Arh, I see.

I thought that he was refering to a single light only. lol

As of yet though I have not heard back.

Mind you, I have not been chasing as I am happy to wait and see if yours are available first.

Fingers crossed.

OK, I'll make a point of checking them out first thing...

the postage might be a bit high... what do you want me to do?

I guess I could pull them apart and just send you the bits (if the're OK), that would save on postage.

(I was going to pull them apart anyway to clean them up so I'm not too bothered about selling bits out of them).

I'll let you know their state.

or i can price them up via courier ... might be a bit cheaper than parcel-farce .. :D

I thought as I have come this far, I might as well swap the plastic adjuster gears for the steel ones I bought a little while back.

I have read a couple of how too's and rather than risk breaking anything, I dismantled the shafts so as to make it easier to press the shaft from the gear.

I have not pressed the steel one on as yet, as this is just a scrap shaft I was practising on.

The plastic cogs do just lever off with a flat screwdriver, I use a long reach 1/4 inch socket to tap gently the new cogs on with :thumbup1:.

Put a blob of grease on them also.

Totally understand where you guys are coming from, It's just that I wanted to check, replace and re grease the O rings at the same time.

I thought as I was not looking to tackle this job again any time soon, I might as well go the whole hog.

Looking forward to shimming the gears soon so as to get the best mesh also.

I think I will pack the housing with grease when I come to finally assembly.

At the risk of becoming boring, I thought I would assemble the adjuster block ready for final fitting.

Turns out that there will be no need for any shimming. If anything, they are a bit pre loaded when built up on the housing.

I will probably run them in a bit by hand prior to fitting the headlamp. (just to ease the tightness)

Also, I will pack them with grease on assembly.

Thanks Spin Doctor/Steams.

Well, It was a toss up between the Sound of Music or more work on the Nissan! Mmmmmm

You guessed it, here is a bit of an update. Thought I would post a bit of a before and after.

Oh, and before anyone mentions it, I have not missed cleaning the fixing holes.

It's just that I can not find my pipe cleaners. lol. (OCD or what?)

how the hell did you get the plastic bits looking like new:bow:

Sweet! Good work.

I've bagged this thread in case I need it in the future should my adjusters fail.

Brilliant attention to detail.

Hi Znut,

I use Janitol Plus at around 10% to 15% in hot water. (it just depends on the degree of dirt.)

I have a variety of cheap childrens pain brushes, along with pipe cleaners for the fiddly bits.

For the easy to get to areas I use one of my smaller alloy wheel cleaning brushes.

I also find that cocktail sticks are very good for getting into the very tight corners etc' you can get a bit more purchase as well.
