I painted my calipers several years back with hammerite and a brush. I want to remove my calipers this weekend and remove all old paint and then re paint them properly.

 

The old paint does chip off with a screwdriver but don't want to subject my calipers to a hammer and screwdriver just to remove paint, is there a better way? Such as using a heat gun? Or having them sandblasted?

 

Don't want to damage the seals in there though...

Get a wirewheel attatchment while covering up the important parts. Pretty handy those wire wheels.

 

Edit: although sandblasting and dipping would be the better option, with some nice powder coating. it's time and much more money then.

dipping will ruin at least the dust seals and maybe the piston seals.

You cant powder coat them without taking them to bits and removing the seals.

Wire wheels wont get in the corners.

blasting is the best way . IMO.

Lol I did mean take them apart haha, otherwise yes they would be ruined.

Ok, I have stripped the calipers and they are now ready for paint (I have decided to paint them myself) I have some high temp gloss spray paint.

 

However, I want to keep the raised NISSAN text bare (shiny) as I have seen many other Z's like this and think it works well, My question is, after rubbing it back to bare should I thne clear coat the calipers to protect the bare text and also make the black glossier. If I dont, will the text go dull?

Use brake cleaner to degrease the calipers and satin black them with a rattle tin...2-3 coats allow to dry in between coats then when done just draw a small file across the nissan text on the face and get them shiney.Looks like a new factory caliper when done.
