Ok my car has been hit in the rear while parked up. Just after some advice for when I call the insurance company (admiral is mine). I have to go back and see the person that hit it after 5 oclock. Does anyone know what I'm likely to get as a payout for the zed?? Can I buy the car back to break it after we've sorted a payout. Thanks.

I am 90% certain it will be. Ive taken some photos but im on my ohone and photobucket is really slow. Ill get them up later. I will go and have another look when ive calmed down a bit and see if its as bad as I first thought. But the one panel is huge. Its bither the rear quaters and the strip under the lights and its all 1 big peice if that makes sense

Don't post the pics. it can cause complications for you if the other party fight it.

Insurance will want date, time, witnesses, make/model/colour of other car. Other drivers name, address insurance company.

Weather conditions, traffic conditions, description of parking place.

You're having no luck at the minute, I hope you get a fair deal out of this without too much stress, and it would be nice if the car survives. Good luck.

Cheers Gary no the zed is outside still, the bloke hit the car at 9am and set the alarm off, he came and knocked the door and spoke the the mrs, I was still asleep after a late night. He told here there was no damage but if I find any to go and give him a knock after he's finished work. No damage my arse. And yes daffy it's the same on as I've got advertised. I've got normal excess to pay and probably a young drivers excess too. With the trouble I have had these last few months this is the last thing I need

If he hasn't informed his insurance yet you may be able to convince him to settle - probably get more out of him for that and just get him to pay for all the repairs.

If he has informed his insurance already then you'll have to go through his insurance but they will not want to agree a value with you and will likely offer you the minimum. You may end up having to enlist the help of your own insurer to battle it out with them.

Similar happened to me and it took 15mths and going to court to get them to finally concede it was 100% their fault! If I didn't have my insurer working on it I would have had to fight it all myself which would have been a massive headache and expense to me.

He hasn't told insurance yet will have a word when he finished work and see what we are going to do. I have legal cover anyway :)

Adam, So sorry to hear this (both for you and the car!) Fight like hell cos the car was worth more than you paid for it, very low mileage only 2 owners in the UK, Don't forget very difficult to get a replacement 300zx the same, "Pearl White " is a very rare colour in the UK.

I know dave, it's just one of those things. I will be asking more than I paid. Also will be sending you a pm shortly :)

I replied on your other thread about this, you can demand your car be put back to pre accident condition by other insurance company, that's what my cousin was told by his insurance company after an accident a few years ago

Cheers Richard everyone has been so so helpful. What a cracking bunch of people on this forum!

Ruishy I have replied on the other thread :)

Medallion man thanks that was a good read and will be very helpful when I battle it out with the insurance company, which is inevitable IMHO as I can't see him giving me a grand or more in cash, then paying for a hire car and insurance etc etc the list goes on and on

Well that's the insurance company informed. Turns out we are both with the same company so I have a question. If they do write it off, how am I able to get as much as possible for the car. If he was insured with someone else I'd be guessing it would be easier to 'barter' for a higher payout. As I'm now going to be arguing with my own company on the value of my own car. They're calling me back tonight with some more Information and what I'll need to do.

Be armed with plenty of similar examples at a price you think is fair. They will look at autotrader and ph etc and base the value on what is currently for sale. Did you manage to find the receipt from when you bought it? Sure you will if you look hard enough bud.

Yeah which is actually a good thing for me because the majority of the cars advertised on the net aren't exactly cheap.

Well anyway they insurance company have called me and given me another option which I've never heard of before.

If we can agree on how much it will approximately cost to repair the vehicle (for me) they will just wire me the cash and let me do it as and when, with no proof of the work being done required. I'm going to ask for £1500. That way I can repair the car and it won't be a CAT C write off. But if I don't get the £1500 then it will be an insurance jobby unfortunately. The other option was sending out an inspector who specialises in rare cars and checking the condition of my vehicle and then determining a fair price, which I do not want to do at all.

Will keep you all informed :)

I've never heard of that but I like! Good luck with getting what you want...

I had that type of pay out few years back when a senile old man pulled straight into the side of my vectra. They gave the estimated repair cost minus 20% (iirc) for me to sort the repairs myself using second hand parts etc as they are not allowed. Everybody wins in a way, they pay less cos otherwise they will basically write the car off and you get the repair money without the car being recorded cat c or d.

In my case I got payed £1055. A new wing and headlight, plus a couple of scuffs on a wheel to live with until refurbed and I was still £1000 in pocket.

Much better than trying to replace my car for an equal.

Anyway good luck with it. Hopefully you'll get a fair pay out offer, if not tell them you want the car fixed back to pre-accident condition. It'll work out cheaper and less hassle for them to just pay you off.

My thoughts exactly. Hoping they will give me a figure tomorrow :) I've been on the receiving end of an insurance claim and got hammered. I over pay for my insurance anyway being only 21. It's my turn to get something in return so I won't be accepting any old offer. It has to be right otherwise ill do as you've said and make them repair the damages

  • Author

Well there wasnt a figure in which we could agree on. The damage definatly wasnt as bad as i thought so the zed is going to live on and be repaired with what looks like a whole new rear end  ill be having a custome spoiler off carmad and they are going to paint it for me when they do my car. TIDYYYYYY! Ill then be toying with selling or keeping it. But either way the zed will go on!
