After having a look under the car and getting the battery out I have determined the source of the leak, and thankfully it's not the manifold.

It appears that the leak is from the pipe union.

I managed to remove the battery then connect it up with some jump leads and run it. couldn't really see much coming out of it, but I could get my hand in and feel it.

The pipe was black around the leak which was a big giveaway too.

So what is the best way to remedy this, and how much has to come apart in the process. Is there any preventative maintenance or even upgrades which would make sense to get done at the same time?

There is a video I took, but vimeo is taking the piss uploading it, shouldn't too much longer. didn't realise how crap it was though until I'd put the battery back in.

Also noticed from underneath there is a bit of an oil leak, doesn't look too bad, it's probably had it for a year or so. My mates seamed to think it was from the rocker cover. How hard is this to change, and same again, is there anything you would recommended doing at the same time?

Thanks in advance

that will be the flared end of the pipe corroded and come away...ive just done a complete EGR delete and my end had also done the same.Your choices are replace the pipe or delete...getting to the other end on the EGR valve its self and hoping it comes off without rounding the nut will require 70% of what needs doing to delete anyway.

That's what my mate said, it'll be the flared end corroded.

Where is the other end? and what are the benefits of deleting?

it goes to the valve which bolts to the lower plenum in the centre back...deleting???take me to long to type mate, hit the search button and theres loads there. Full delete (binning the lot) you have go to take off the upper plenum at the very least.

Is it such a terrible idea to try and bodge this for the time been? I'm thinking exhaust putty and some sort of amalgamating tape that will take the heat?

Obviously not a permanent fix, but a temporary measure.

Or would this cause even more problems?

Yeah I want to. But I don't really want to take the plenum off on my drive in the middle of winter. So I was thinking just a bodge till I can get it to Jeff.

I had this whole idea that when the plenum came off it'd be going back on all shiny with some uprated coil packs and bigger injectors. ideally in a garage where I could take my time. But I can't afford all that yet.

I know what your saying but it will be 100xs easier to pull that plenum second time round. It's worth doing it right.

Yeah true. But how about a bodge for me to drive it to Jeff's? Or will it be OK just leaking for a 3 hour drive?
