Hi guys, quick question!

I'm after a HID conversion kit for my zx and I am finding it difficult to get a straight answer!!

What size do I need, H1, H2, H3 etc. and what's the best colour temp to go for 5000k, 6000k etc. for main beam and high beam??

Thanks in advance!!

H3 and my personal preference is 6000k it's a good clear light which really brightens up the road. I bought my kit from hids4u very nice bits of kit.

Hi mate, you need H3 for your dipped beam ( main headlight) and H1 for your main beam, however due to ignition time its not worth fitting hids to the main beam. 5K is nice and white, the light gets bluer as you go up the scale.

I'd go for 4300k. I currently have 6000k....little 'too' blue. 4300k will be closer to an OEM look and also be brighter than the 6000k. I'll swap mine out one day for 4300k.

Strange you find that mate, I've always thought the 6000k ones were spot on white.

As said, keep the HID's for Dipped beam only. Dont use them for Main beam, they are'nt really suitable for flashing, and severly shortens their lifespan.

These are my dipped beams with 6000k, which I am very happy with how white they are. Anything from 4000k - 6000k would be ideal.

There's a billion kits out there with a massive variation on price. Who can recommend a specific kit? Also, you say h3. My headlights are h3c, is there much difference? Am I still cool to get a h3 kit?

Imports use H3c for regular bulbs but when fitting HID's you use the H3 kit. The difference between H3 and H3c is the earth wiring from the bulb, which the HID kit replaces.

I dont have a supplier recommendation though, got mine about 4 years ago, from Ebay I think. I've fitted about a dozen kits to Z's from £30 - £200 , and there were no noticeable differences between them in fitting or in first use. (cant comment on longetivity). I imagine most kits come out of the same factory.

H3 and h3c make no diffrence h3 hid kit will fit both types uk and jdm headlights .

I think it's about time I saw where I was going in the dark. Been putting it off a couple winters now as it looked a bit box racery. Seems to be the norm now.

If you get the opportunity I would highly suggest cleaning the inside of the headlights too. Even though they often dont look dirty, once dismantled and cleaned the difference is VERY noticeable.

Unfortunatly to do it properly it means removing the headlights and taking them apart.

I'm just bloody fussy! Ha. 6000k is fine, but I think I'll be changing to 4300k.

THIS! The glass gets a nasty black film on that you can't really see unless you actually clean the lens. Clean the projector too, but try not to clean the reflector for the main beam, they have a tendency to tarnish really badly.

I've started buying the ballasts and bulbs separately, it's cheaper as the last time I looked it was £20.00 per kit and at this money you might want to consider having some spares !!

I always go for 5000k.

Not necessarily, this is the method I used (it is in Japanese, but you will get the jist):

You can also clean the rear of the projector lens using the same technique.

Where's that write up about the dip beam/high beam mod? Just got my kit through the post. I'll be fitting it this weekend with any luck.

Fitted my new hid headlights at the weekend. Went for 6000k.

Holy funk nuts what a difference! Wish I had done it years ago. How I ever drove my zed at night without hitting anything I'll never know. Highly recommend for anyone else that hasn't taken the hid step yet. Only cost £25 too!
