After a hard but fairly successful season of events Bob has dropped the car off with me for a major makeover and revision.

As before I just have the rolling shell.

Jimmer at Power Zed has already removed the engine and box.

He will be doing a strip down /inspect/replace routine on the Kyle Puckett engine.

Bob has dropped the gearbox of at Advanced Motorsport engineering at silverstone for a similar strip/inspect/replace routine.

The rest arrived at my place last weekend .... looking a little worse than when it left in the spring!!!!

The brief from Bob is long and detailed.................. but it starts with a reinstate of the 99 spec front with splitter and the TwinZ rear bumper.

I already obtained a good used 99 spec from Mikey Bean and I have a new Twinz rear from Mark Derbys group buy.

I will get a new sheet of ally and make another front splitter. good job I kept the template!!

There are numerous detail improvements on the schedule too. More details to follow!

Probably the most important/significant is a new custom loom for the car. Over the development period of the car numerous items have been added by several people. The result now is a total mess of wiring everywhere with no one personknowing exavtly what is joined to what!!!

This winter I am lucky that our new race day team member Paul is helping at my place with all the work.

Im simply getting too old for some of the harder physical jobs needed.

In addition the newly formed Bodymech team of "Boldy" and "Manta V8" are doing the panel fitting and giving the whole shell a fresh coat of paint inside and out.

so Im sure everyone will be adding to the thread as they get their quota of jobs done.

So a few pics meantime and can you spot the brake problem???

I have also highlighted some fittings that need "improving"

Check out the rats nest of wiring too!!

Well time is ticking on....

Paul n me have been busy on Bob's car but most of what we have done is boring stuff so we havent posted much.

Its nearly ready to head off to the Bodymech workshop now...

We have decided to reduce the size of the fuel tank to help reduce /eliminate fuel surge.

The SWB tank is an interesting saddle design and lends its self to being cut in half!!

One of my tame fabricators has got the job.

Meanwhile Paul has put the subframe back in.

We decided that a flat boot floor would have several benefits including a small weight saving.

The main benefits are improved appearance and the emergence of a tidy area to install the fire extinguisher and NOS bottle.

The battery is moving over from the right rear corner to behind the pass seat area. Less cable so better performance and coupled with all the fuel on the same side the L to R weight distribution should be better once the driver is in.

Up front I have ordered a trio of new bottles for fluids. These will all be mounted in visible positions instead of hiding under wings etc.

The car is now difficult to jack up quickly as its pretty low so Im am getting new jacking points welded in to facilitate a one step jack up with a low entry racing jack. Hopefully this will end the damage to the sills.

So Im sure the guys will be busy on it tomorrow and might even post up some pics.....................

Meantime Paul is going to help me do a diff swap on my slicktop.

We might even get time to put my Twinz splitter on??????

Great!

That means I can check up on ya all without making a trip to Bulwell!!!:whistling:

Keep the updates coming :)

On the fuel tank, I think it's an interesting idea, my concern would be having it off centre will mean your diagonal weights will change with fuel level which could impact the handling

With the standard tank on hard corners most of the fuel rushes to one side or another anyway. IMO this will actually make it more predictable as all the weight will be on the left side. This balanced out by the fact that on track there is usually only me. On the right side :)

In practice I dont think the change wil be "significant. Remember we dont have an F1 driver at the wheel :whistling:

We are hoping to run with a much lighter fuel load at all times.

Ps hope you like the diff!

LOL!!

So do I!!!

Will let you know when its fitted

Wont be able to get a valid test till next year tho at the pod or York Raceway.

By which time my "new race mechanic" will have helped me fit the uprated engine( after only 4 years!!!)

It's great working on bobs car, trying new things and seeing it come together, also it will be great to help Pete out with his slicktop getting it to where he wants it to be, and in any other spare time getting my own zed built ready for next year so busy busy

I'm sure all the little changes we've made to bobs car will help in getting the car bob wants, can't wait to see it back from the body shop looking refreshed

Paint can hide a number of sins!

I didn't think my sills were too bad until I had them done! There was more filler than metal hidden under the paintwork!!

You want to see it now! Lol!:whistling:

Bigger holes appearing but nowt Al won't sort.

You have to make it worse before you make it better ! honest :whistling: lol

Edited by boldy

I could see there was some dodgy filler work there but i was quite suprised to find what it was hiding !

After a bit more digging

The quarter was sat in a fair bit to the door so i cut out the plate that had been welded into give me more access to get the slide hammer in and used wiggly wire to pull the top section back out and pin pulled the dints .

Once the panel was lining back up with the door edge i made a plate for the infill and tacked it in , gonna finish it tomorrow .

The tailgate has had the holes welded but to make a neater job darren spot welded the plates in , minimal distortion compared to mig welding them and he also pin pulled the damage out of the o/s sill , it,s keeping him busy eh ! lol
