As stated in the title,

I did about a 150 mile run today , and (what I assume) is the cat temp light was intermitenley on / off. I did notice that when i got home the armrest was a tad warm which i guess would be just above it.

What could be the cause of this? and what could be fixed to sort this out.

On other note, i dont know if this is linked or not but performance was very rubbish between about 2.3k - 3k rpm. it seemed to really struggle in 5th in this rev range.

Is that linked? or could that be down to the MAF needing to be replaced?

Hope someone can shed some light

Nothing to do with the Maf ....

i would say u need to investigate it ... its poss that the cat its self is about to or has collapsed and is blocking the gas flow

this would make the engine have poor performance and Heat up the exhaust ..

Cheers for replying, I actually have a japspeed decat sitting in the flat, do you think this would make it all better?

well they would make the car perform better ... so thats a bonus

but i would still be checking them .. given the age of them and with symptoms of a blocked cat

check your coil pack plugs, its usually a sign of a misfire and fuel is entering the cats.

Cheers for the link, yeah that does sound exactly the same. These are the state of my connectors, They all appear to look different, so which is good and which is not?

And is there a way of finding which connector is causing the misfire?

Your coil pack connectors are made up of a main body, a cable separator and a top.

In your upper picture the left hand connector has both the top and cable separator is missing, the right hand connector is just missing the top piece.

In your lower picture the right hand two connectors in the lower picture are intact, the left hand one has the top missing.

Non of the missing parts is a problem, providing all of the connectors are a snug fit and not loose then the next place to check is the ptu connections, the unit has two large connectors the main one to check is the lower left hand one as this tends to go a bit green, with the engine running rock the connector and see if the engine changes, WD40 and a craft knife or similar is all you need to clean them.
