PC help - before I throw the damn thing out of the window!!!!

Hi folks,

I have a little Asus Netbook which we don't use a great deal - well Julia uses it every now and again. Thing is, whenever it downloads a Windows update, the damn thing fails to restart EVERY time!!! I switch it on, get the Asus screen and then nothing - just a blank screen with a cursor in the top left corner. Even the light to indicate the hard disc is operative doesn't illuminate - as it is inoperative.

After pressing F3, F4 or enter a few times, it eventually springs back into life - so clearly there is something preventing Windows from starting up; but what????

The machine is barely 3 months old and runs on Windows 7 starter. I am at my bloody wits end with the damn thing to be honest; I have no issues with Windows updates on my laptop - so why is the fooking netbook causing so many problems. I have tried to restore it to the position before the update; but when it restarted (just now) I am back to the blank screen with the flashing cursor in the left hand corner.

Any ideas - apart from stamping on the hateful little piece of crap?

That was my first thought TBH Tony - this is the second one as I've already had one replacement because the first one did not even switch on when I took it out of the box....

Hi Richard,

Follow the link in my signature and I can remote to your laptop if you want.

Obviously do this from the net book.

....Cheers Lee - I'll give that a go tomorrow mate!! Goodnight for now,

Sorry mate would love to be able to help you but I'm stuck in the middle of removing all the malware known to man from my Sisters kids laptops. Done one and that took 16 hours to clean up. Still got two to go :( I'll swap you? You sort these and I'll fix your netbook? lol

Would have been faster doing a reinstall at 40 min tops, lol

Not with the amount of crap they want to keep. They've got so many programs installed, i'd spend nearly as long re-installing them..lol Having to do an almost manual cleanup, gives me something to do :)

Well it worked first time this morning - I did a restore to an earlier point last night and it seems to be working. It's surely no coincidence that every time it does a Windows update, this happens....

.....I have switched off the updates now; I expect most of them are pointless anyway - as long as I still keep the anti-virus up to date, what else do I need to update?

The user.............:innocent::whistling::big grin:

I must admit I would have taken it back and got them to sort it out and explain what is going on....... But that is because I only use Mac's...... Less aggro I find.........

At least we have some knowledgeable peeps on here..... have some rep.....
