were is the best place to get a manual gear box rebuild ? am proper specialist not clown jobs

Buy a known good 2nd hand gearbox.

 

The quotes I had for a full rebuild were into 4 figures.

that's the issue isn't it you cant test it till its in the car. what prices were you getting out of intrest

£1090 was the cheapest I found.

 

You could probably find a fair bit cheaper with more time spent looking. My issue turned out to be not related to the gearbox itself, so didn't need to do anymore looking around.

that's not a bad price like. the reason I ask if I do a convert from auto to man I would like a rebuild box from the off as its to much of a gamble just fitting one you have no idea were its been have been down this road many times before with other cars and found most of the stuff from breaker yards to be utter crap and is there cus its junk

Brand new 98+ Spec Manual Gearbox -works out at about £1100, but unfortunately shipping from the U.S would need to be added to that, Z1 can quote if you ask them.

What I would say though is that the Manual boxes on these are very strong. The only real issue that ever appears is worn syncro, typically 3rd - 4th. You quite often see people advertise breakers with rotting shells or overheating issues that would'nt prevent a quick gearbox test before it gets stripped.

hmmm just looking now be nice to have a new box

buy a rotten or crashed manual zed with a good box for the same money and have a load of spares for free..then after its raped of parts get £200 for the shell at scrapyard.

have not got the room for 2 300zx like not sure what am going to do at the mo will have to see after xmas now not going to have the car back for a while
