Oh shit.

Ok chaps, how much is this lot going to cost me? frown.gif

Knackered Knock Sensor frown.gif

Twatted Turbos frown.gif

Shagged Start Circuit frown.gif

Arsed Aircon (pump, r12)

If anyone wants me, I'll be taking a long walk off a short Isle of Wight pier frown.gif

more:

I suppose I shouldn't grumble as I got the car £2000 cheaper than it should have been, and I took a gamble on it. The fucking trader I bought it off took *50000* miles off the clock though frown.gif grrr.. he has offered me £300 and an aftermarket warranty and obviously claims to know nothing of the missing miles... I spoke to the previous owner and he said the car had 135000 miles on it when he part ex'd it on an M3. But unfortunately the car has passed thru several traders in between the part-ex and the guy who sold it to me (hence the "I dunno when those miles disappeared, sir" response).

Oh well I budgeted 7K for a TT manual and paid 4K (if I get the £300 refund) so I suppose spending another 2.5k getting it right aint too bad.

It's still a nice car tho, all the other bits work, I can get an aircon pump for £75 and prolly fit it myself.. but the knock sensor and turbos .. sheesh!.. still it doesn't smoke *at all* tho the previous owner said the turbos need doing.

Spppplooooooshhhhhh.... that was me falling off the end of Ryde pier.. luckily the water is shallow and I think I'll make it back to me Zed (I still love her, but my heart has gone out of it all now frown.gif )....

Anyone have the number for SE and some spare benzodiazapine traquillizers?

Glen.

Why d'ya need new turbos if they're not smoking ? & SE's number is under the contacts section.

Awwww bollocks... she's white and beautiful and fucked.

The safety boost and wonky Hicas and shashed aircon I understand now....85000 miles my arse....135000 for f*cks sake frown.gif

G'damm why didnt I listen to you guys

/hangs head in shame/

For Sale: White TT Manual, 85k (yeah right) , FSH (Forged), Excellent cond. One lady owner.

£2300.

07968586039.

Glen

Unfortunately Andy, the previous owner has said that the seals are shankered, and the turbos are going to need sorting.

Plus the knock sensor too.

I guess I'm feeling sorry for myself frown.gif

Glen.

You might be able to get a full refund from the dealer, if the vehicle "is not fit for the purpose for which it was sold". It'll take time and coyuld be a court jobbie ...

Alternatively, if the rest of the car is in good nick, then you could take a deep breath and start spending some of that cash you saved. However, if it's really done 135K then I would suspect that all sorts of bits could be getting tired, like bushes, shocks, springs etc etc etc You need to get someone who knows their stuff to look it over for you - then make the decision.

hugghhhhhhhh ???

You do not have F.R.A.U.D. protection in UK ?

previous owner said the car had 135000 miles.

dealer said 85000 miles.

Someone comitted fraud....WHO is NOT your problem....you are a victim...go and get a lawyer....NOW !!!!!!!

Yeah smile.gif

The guy who owned the car previous to me knew Luke Borg and gave me his number... I had plans to give Luke a call and see what his opinion is on the car (if you are reading Luke, hope this is OK smile.gif )

All said and done, I guess I got stitched up frown.gif

Basically the trader I purchased the z from had a sticker on the dash saying that he didn't warrant the mileage, but surely someone is liable for the missing 50k? frown.gif

I have an invoice of sale, when I phoned the guy who sold me the car he just said to me "bring it back and I'll refund you, less £300".(but I dont reckon he will)

I'm stupid for buying it and dont deserve to own a zed... and Ive just done £500 on and mp3 headunit other nice ice.

Oh well.

Bad one frown.gif

Peace and lotz of boozt,

Glen

1990 TT Stock Manual.

he's right check under the consumer credit act you are more than within your rights to sue the ass off him. i know the british legal system can take some time but what have you got to lose and with the new woolf reforms beginning to bite you may find it won't take that long

I'm sorry to hear that..

But..since most of the problems seem to be engine related and since the turbo's need to be replaced, the engine has to come out anyway.

This is a good opportunity to replace the knock-sensor and maybe do some other engine overhaul as well

Or..it might be worthwhile to get a low mileage engine.

A few months ago I had contact with a breaker in Japan that sold low mileage and complete engines (including turbos, ecu, alt, airconpump, steeringpump, gearbox, etc) for around $3000 excl. shipping.

Only problem was I had to buy at least 6 of these *engine-packages*.

It might be worth to look into this...there MUST be another breaker in Japan that doesn't mind selling 1 or 2 complete engines...

I don't know what state the rest of your car is in though ?

-Eric

Hi Glen,

Sorry mate, I know exactly where you're at right now! I was there a few months ago, completely and utterly pissed off to the point of no return.

Listen, my Brother has been in a legal dispute over his Alpine for nearly two years now. Which means the car has been standing outside in yards of garages and has been sent from pillar to post. Scratches all over it from transit, and to top it all, the place where it is at the moment in Stockport...engine rebuilders specialists, he had it broken into the week after me and hime went up to see it! He's got 6K's worth of ICE in the car, two pukka amps and neon nicked from under the bonnet...just when things can't get much lower!!!

He's now only just got a court date, hence why I am not going down the "someone must be liable" route. Because if you start down that path you will kiss goodbye to your car for a long time!

If you can afford to sort the car then go for it, my car is now at SE with it's engine in bits in Pete's workshop. However, this is the perfect time to sort things out properly...

Pete has assured me that the bottom end on my car will be good for 450bhp, it was rebuilt not long ago but whoever did it before I got my hands on it didn't sort the heads out properly which was causing my valve problems.

So, I'm having the heads polished and ported, metal head gasketts, have already ordered my Traction Control and am planning all sorts of stuff for the car. Just going to send my order to the US for ASP under drive pulley and Techtom seeing as I'm in no rush at the moment for anything. Looking at Blitz SUS intake and Blitz exhaust when she comes out from hospital.

It is very disheartening, I know, I got ripped off aswell. Paid over the odds for a f**ked car in the first place so take some very deep breaths and think about what you wanna do. If you get rid you may feel worse as you've lost out in money terms especially.

If I sold my car now it would be financial suicide, I would lose thousands. So I am comitted to sorting it out, forget about Supras and Skylines etc. I know where I want to be with my Z and that's going to be at least another three or four years down the line yet.

Hope this helps you a little, as everyone says on here, they are a good car once you have them running the way they should be!

Just to put another point across, I remember whatching Top Gear around 1995/6/7 can't be 100 percent sure which year. Guy spends about 20K on a 300 TT from a Nissan main dealer and it turns out the car is a complete shed. He gets RAC out to inspect it and the whole car is dropping to bits!

So this is nothing new in my opinion, just have to live with it.

Tim

;-)

Hey Glen

Ok, If we look at things from a keeping point of view.

I would only keep the car if you spent less than 3K on it !!! I have seen cars with front wing damage go for about 1.7K which need and 1K's worth of work + some had

If would do the following.

Check Engine Compression - if the car is running low compression and like a dog you are looking at at least 2K's worth of work there.

Check the Turbos ! if they are gone add another 1400

Knock Sensor - about 80 quid but a helluva a lot more to install unless you have to do one of the above - it can be bypassed tho !

Shagged Start Circuit ?!? do you mean the Starter Motor or the PTU - i would need more into to give you any more on this.

Arsed Aircon - If it is the compressor then look at about 800 quid for a used one. Freon refill can be done for under 100 quid.

The above maths dont make good reading if all is indeed wrong.

If you are in Grantham again feel free to shoot us a mail and you can come down to Nottingham and i will have a look at the car for you. Help you find out exactly what is wrong.

Im sure luke will helpfull - he doens't read the forum to my knowledge but he is a very usefull bloke and im sure will be able to help you out on the history of the car - he is also in nottingham so we can pop around to see him also if you are in the area.

Take it easy and hope things work out for ya

Hi Glen.

Very sorry to hear about your bad luck with the Zed. It certainly is worth seeing what the guy who sold it has to say about the situation. Even though you only paid £4000.00

for the Zed, it should be fit for the purpose as Andy has said. However if you do want some indication of cost I had my engine pulled and my turbo's reconditioned. This cost just under £2000.00 . The turbos looked like new once I had this done. As Eric has suggested that would also be the time to gat the Knock Sensor Changed. I don't think you are talking vast amounts for this part luckily. I spoke to Darren at Ancastor Nissan about my Knock Sensor a while back and he said that sometimes the sensor is not the problem but the wiring to it. So some investigation on this may be worthwhile!. If the engine is to be pulled get all the oil feed pipes etc changed and any other ones that look shot, good time to do it. As you have said you have got the car for low price, you will have to ask yourself if it is worth spending more on it. I guess if you do then you are assured the engine will be in good working order once finished.

Hope it all turns out ok either way M8

Seez Ya

Glen,

For the good news......Get onto Trading Standards tell them about the dodgy milage and condition of the car, They will give you some sound advice first then you will have to call the garage where you purchased the car from and tell them you have been intouch with Trading Standards (Who will tell you what to say to the dealer) Tell the dealer that the car sold to you was not fit for the purpose for what it was sold and what are they going to do about it.

They should if they know there stuff agree to fix the car, But more than likely they will say they won't, This is when you get back intouch with Trading Standards and explain what the garage have said (remember to take the name of the person who spoke to you at Trading Standards)

I got the turbo replaced on my old 200SX and other bits and bobs after I was sold a 'Nail'.

Don't hang about phone Trading Standards.

Hope this helps,

Matty..... smile.gif

Sorry to hear the bad news Glen. In an ideal world you'd get your money back no problem.... but unfortunately, our industry runs on the daily practice of shifting dodgy motors to the unsuspecting public. I'd never buy a car here after owning my import (which actually had no documented history).

It's a pain in the butt to wait 3 months to get it.... but if it reduces the chances that you'll be off the road for as long (if not longer) when something goes wrong.. then it's a precaution worth taking.

For a car like that purchased over here, you really do need to ask yourself why it'd be on the market at such an attractive price.

I wish you the best of luck in recouping your losses and/or getting her back up to standard. These cars really are worth giving a chance.... I'll own a Z for the rest of my life now.

Jayen 'I'll own a Z for the rest of my life now.'

What a horrible thought some old gaffer in 40 years time driving his classic zed wearing a pork pie hat with his Jack Russell on the passenger seat! eek.gif

Simon

Glen,

I look at it like this, I like the Supra, but to buy a pukka one I would have had to spend at least 10-15K! On reading a review in EVO they said be very wary buying one at 10K level.

Other car choice would be a GTR Skyline, but again you're looking at 15K starters. So I looked at my troubled Z and thought "sod it, spend some dosh on the nice looking motor!", buy the time I've finished I should have a nice car to pose around in and pamper at weekends while me woman is playing with her nags!

Tim

;-)

It's a different view to the others expressed and it depends on your personality and your own opinion but I would be tempted to take the car back and accept the £300 less. I'd ask for a receipt explaining that the car had been accepted back due to it not being considered acceptable for the specific reasons.

At this point you are only £300 down. £300 is within the limits for the small claims court and that's the route I would then take (from memory it costs around £25). Psychologically, the dealer is now only arguing about £300 and may be prepared to pay it back to you).

It's not RIGHT but if you've got it as an option then it might save some extended grief.

Dave

Firstly and most importantly I would like to offer my sincerest thanks for all the repliez you funky bunch have given smile.gif

Loads of top suggestions proving to me that this is a top forum and not full of 'I told you so' merchants.

I am badgering the dealer for a full refund and he is stalling, but I got him y'see... The service history is forged as are a number of invoices relating to work/mileage/dates. So I guess he has to ask himself if he A smile.gif Gives me a refund or B smile.gif I goto Trading Standards and the police and bust his bollocks for fraud. He had a mileage disclaimer on the odometer but this doesn't absolve him of responsibility in Law. And he advertised it as 'Totally immaculate and original' - Mistake - False representation.

If he comes and picks up the car and gives me back my 4.3 large I'll let it go. If not the the Trading Standards will be all over him I would imagine.

I personally don't think he clocked it, but I reckon he knew it was a shed. And he sold it as immaculate and original.

As a footnote, the previous owner let the BMW dealership have it for £2300 frown.gif

So when/if I get my cash refund I will have learned a very valuable lesson:

Buy a lexus ;-)

Kindest Regards and once again thank-you all for your ponderings and musings on my situation.

Ill let you know how it all panz out.

Peace and lotz of boozt.

Glen.

Just don't give up - there's some great Zs out there. If you get this one sorted out then be disciplined and look at another half a dozen so you can compare and know a good one. Also, consider getting an RAC or AA inspection. I had this done and avoided a shed on my first and then, on the second, the report allowed me to knock off the cost of BOTH inspections. I went for RAC and although expensive it was seriously thorough.

And don't forget that guys on here are always happy to help.

Good luck

Dave

Sorry to hear that.

My car was fitted with a new 20k lump sep' 99

cost including every nut, clip, & axroi inc tubs was only £1600, fitting unknown though.

It even came with jap certs & instructions how to fit !

This could be a ref on price if you need it,

try all the sale adds on bits do a DEAL!!! and get the courts to favour your stitch up, then go & buy a BOSE cool bag for your ice!

The best of luck.

harve

Simon,

ummmm.... just for the record.... where did I actually say that I'd drive it as an old duffer? Naturally, I'll house it in a garage all to itself...which leads out onto a dedicated private race track. For daily use...it'll vent it's ducts under the control of my son/daughter and the world will continue to marvel at the 8th wonder of the world.

*thwamp* BLAST ! Those flying pigs sure pack a wallop.

OMGod, flying pigs??

Shit those sods are bad enough in T5's..

Still even in safety boost the Zed leaves em standing smile.gif

Oh well the guy has faxed me a letter and agreed to 'buy back' the car and he says he will re-ad in the breakers and salvage section..prolly parm it off on some mug more like. Anyone wanting a ZED, DO NOT BUY one from Leicester for at least a couple of weeks. Its white, TT, manual and G890VFK.

Well this whole debarcle has cost me about a grand. That is unfortunately too much of a dent in my fiscal predicament to allow me to go huntin' for another Zed.

Oh well, ya live and learn.. thanks for all your comments smile.gif

Might see ya around some time....

Glen.

BTW if anyone has a TTManual for _around_ six-ish grand... hehe thought not...

Damm, sorry to here about your Zed ownership frown.gif

Have you thought of importing a model yourself? I'm not sure but I think someone on here has done this. Shouldnt hurt to ask some companies for an estimate of cost..try www.bestjapancar.com . This kind of stuff paints a bad picture, and not due to the Zed but the f@cking dealer! Cars in that state should be broken for spares(not the shagged bits) and kept off the market. Damm car dealers...would sell their grannys arse for a profit!
