Hey everyone,

been running my TT Zed for a few days for the work commute whilst looking for something cheap as chips to run, and on a 50m round trip (with a heavy right foot) I have been getting 26mpg!! I thought that was pretty epic.

Thing is I was looking for a mk3 golf gti 8v as a daily commuter and that is only 32mpg on a run apparently!! well no point havign two cars for that saving - only thoughts is I would rather not put commuting miles on a Zed with only 65k on the clock.

what would people suggest for a cheap commuter which won't kill me with shame - also for a budget of £500 :p

Best, William.

Something diesel.....

.....or for £500, keep the ZX and don't worry about the mileage. It's low enough that a few more miles won't be of consequence, considering the age of the car now....:flowers:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

That's about right for a healthy tt on the run mate. You may even find you get more outta it. It's not black your zed is it?

I found after only 4 months of commuting my zed become so run down, I now have a clio 182 cup sport for my commute and i get 40mpg, but after a year and 20k miles it's also looking tired. But I'd get another clio as for what it is it's fast and 40mpg isn't bad at all... And they are cheap.

Thanks for the info Hollings, Sounds good. Yeah I love driving the Zed but would hate to see it start to get run down and tired.. I woudl quite like to start really health checking the engine and possibly upgrading and mapping it for 400bph :)

Bolt - Yeah I was hoping for that although considering how much fun I had been having I thoguht it may have been down in the late teens. Pretty chuffed really, it as good as my old 2.2 vtec prelude used to be! Makes me love the Zed even more.

Mine is a blue one with black alloys - Just uploaded a photo :) Drive past a black one it southampton every day though.

Hi Richard, I have been hard pushed to find a diesel for my budget! I'l have a good look this weekend! probably the answer I imagine.

I used to have an old Peugeot 306 1.4L car for commuting in. I bought it for £400 and sold it for the same 2 years and 45,000 miles later.

They are cheap as chips if you can find one that has low miles..its a winner. Not the fastest but you could wind it up to overtake with a tail wind!

I saw a yellow one for sale in fareham this week, seem that? The black one you see is it a swb with a stillen front splitter? If so it's likely Marcos car.

Was that yellow one on ebay? It rings a bell. This one is parked up near the airport direction, LWB tt manual ((not that I parked next to it to have a nose around or anything) with some odd fog lights on the front of the car... I am still waiting for the day someone drives one past so I can flash them, so sad I know.

Yeah mondeo's are tanks!

Probably the 01- 05 is it? They are cheap to buy and run for ages...

2 litre chain driven engine, dura torque?

No it's a 2008 titanium X with 6speed box. The 2001-5 were all 1.9 I think apart from the 2.2ST
