I have completely disconnected the loom in the engine bay and now need to get at it from the inside where it passes through the bulkhead. I have removed the glovebox and hoped to remove what I believe to be the pollen filter housing/heater fan to access. I have removed many 10mm bolts but nothings budging. Is there a cheat to get to the loom or do I have to strip down dash????:confused1:

There's a silly metal plate on the inside of the bulkhead where it passed through which is a pain to get at but unfortunately stops it coming out!

Yes mate the complete engine loom goes just to the ECU

to get the fan off there is 1 vertical bolt at the top going up and two horizontal nuts at the bottom. just put mine back in. there is also an electrical connector in the front and i think 1 in the side towards the centre of the car.

hope this helps

Thanks Dougal, that's very helpful. I thought I might need to strip down the whole dash, hallelujah !!!!!!! :)

to get the loom off take out the heater Fan unit that sits behind the glove box ...

Thanks for that, good to know it's relatively simple :)

Its not mate, even with the fan out its still a pig,you still cant see the bracket that holds the loom and have to grope around to get on the two 10 mm nuts, cut the loom at the bulkhead engine side it makes it easier .If you have young kids make them do it,adult arms and hands dont fit behind there very well !

Ha nothing like using the family. Katie bolted up my clutch master her girly hands were much better suited than my twisted sausages.

lol........... I knew my 16 month old had a purpose in life....... "Get behind my dash and don't come out till you've done it!"

Oh *****cks!!! I need loom complete, so is it easier to undo and strip the whole dash of my donor car, then I can install the same way into my donor shell ;)

  • Author

I need it Steve as it's going into my new shell. The one in that surprisingly enough has been cut off at the bulkhead. It's all disconnected from my red car and ready to go. I will get to drive one of these cars mate......eventually :(

Anyway folks. I reckon your all making a bit of a meal of this!!!! If I'm successful I think I'm gonna train as a gynaecologist :)

Ahhhh, Barry's bodge shop :p

Sounds like you will have to get on with it, space is tight generally as you know. With things like that it's often best to give it over night and come back to it, you will be much faster and less stressed.

I will do it Steve as luckily I'm stripping from a donor car which is all intact. I have photographed and labelled every disconnected wire from the engine bay. I will do the same inside :) have you any idea who stripped down this white shell and for what reason????

No idea, is this the car you got from baz? If so that's probably who is ask. Is the red ones shell shot then? Shane you've not have one running, this summers been pretty active in our area.

Just removed the engine ecu loom from old car which was originally auto and converted to manual. The shell it's going in is a manual. Are the looms in both a manual and auto the same. The reason I ask is although the majority of wiring goes to the engine bay, there is another which goes elsewhere inside?

The alternator harness, which includes the startner cables are different. Either mod the auto one (easy) you can look at mine if you want to see how it's done, easier to see things in real life in my opinion. Or swap over the harness, if you've got the engine out already that should be easy.

Yeah there should be a sub harness on the new manual shell, if there isn't you will have to use the old converted one.
