Whilst there has been many a debate about the virtues of stock brakes on here, I have always been of the opinion they are good - as long as they are in full working order.....

.....And I had the opportunity to test that theory this morning when a small child ran across the road in front of me, without looking or warning. Luckily there was no-one behind me, as I doubt they would have stopped as quickly!!

If you had bigger brakes you would of stopped in half the distance

Heh heh - although I doubt it mate!! I have AMG brakes on the Merc and I'd defy that to stop in the distance I had to avoid hitting the child - and at 29mph.....

This is what makes me mad, kids that have no road sense as cost cutting means they don't teach it in schools anymore, mr tuffty is long gone. And then drivers get the blame for the accident, what ever speed they were doing.

You must have been alert as well. There are so many dozy drivers around. Nice one!

Sends a chill, when you here of those situations, not so much the brakes Being up to scratch, more your good road sense Rich, well done.

It does that mate - it's one of those situations that, fortunately, seldom occurs; and if I had been driving Julia's Rav I wonder if I'd have managed to stop in time - not to mention how much worse an injury I'd have inflicted on the child in a 4x4...

And the kid must have been young as he was pretty small in comparison to the height of the ZX bonnet - too young to be out on his own IMO, I saw no adult with him once he got to the pavement. He just ran from the park on the right hand side, straight across the road to the corner shop on my left; without looking in the direction I was approaching from....:sweatdrop:

Some pad texting on a push bike drifted into the on coming traffic ie me. I tooted him and braked, and got a hurl of abuse. : s next time I can run you over if you prefer mate?

....and one look at your Z and they're bound to say you were speeding...

Thing is mate, had I hit the child, that would have been said no matter what car I had been driving. Sadly these days, the motorist is always the target; and any pedestrian witnesses are sooo quick to denounce the motorist as speeding... Despite the fact that most people on the pavement have no idea how fast a car is really travelling when it passes them...:nono:
