Its no coincidence that the vast majority of 300ZX owners in motorsport start with a slicktop.

Its the lightest model in the range.

Way back in 2005 I weighed a standard NA Manual Slicktop.

It weighed 1420kg as driven on to a weighbridge. Fuel around 1/3 tank.

This was pretty much what Brian Long listed in his book.

After a fair amount of stripping which was partially documented in a thread at the time I got the weight down

to 1320kg. This was with my original red slicktop.

When I built the current orange and black car I did some more weight loss but never went back to get it weighed

So in its present spec I weighed it today.

It weighed 1270KG. There was over half a tank of fuel so Im sure I could get that down to nearer 1250.

There is a little more to be saved by stripping out the doors and using Polycarb windows but that final reduction is a bridge too far for me and quite expensive.

So......1260KG say witth 1/3 tank fuel.

It will be interesting to see how that compares with Bob and James's cars.

Here's an old thread I had bookmarked

Weight's are in lb's btw:balloon:

Yep thats the original thread on the subject.

The info is copy n pasted from a US site.

Its written like its all fact but it isnt and it too misses the main point. The final weight of what you are left with.

To see if you are making any progress you need to be methodical about it.

Weigh the item you are starting with. IE your own car,

Perform whatever weightsaving you are doing.

Weigh the final item again.

Guesstimates of how much your car was to start with based on data in books and on the net wont do.

Likewise relying on a now outdated list dreamped up by some random americans based on a different spec of car to ours is not very accurate or scientific

Some of the weights are pretty suspect. I think you have to be carefull aswel as where you ditch the weight. These cars have quite a good bias from stock, throwing out everything upfront leaving the arse full weight is likely a mistake.

it's the other way around that's the problem, easier to lose weight at the rear vs the front.

Getting the car corner weighted would help balance things out again though wouldn't it?

That list is no good. It gets posted up every time there is weight discussion and somebody even went to the trouble of converting it all to KG's once, but the numbers are mostly bullshit.

Whoever originally wrote that list about 10yrs ago simply guessed the numbers. I can tell this from the difference in numbers I have from weighting my own parts.

It's a list of stuff that can be removed isn't it, so regardless of the accuracy of weights/models/specs etc it's a pretty decent summary of things that can be ditched

This is how I see it. Strip out as much as you can then stick a big spoiler on the back to counteract the imbalance. Corner weighting is good of course. So the back end is lighter but I would rather modify my driving style and suspension setup than add weight but that's just me :-£

Yeah I Spose so, I was trying to highlight the thought process that making an arrow or pendulum out if the car won't make it corner very well. I'm guessing the loss of the stock tailgate and glass was the mahout weight drop at the rear?
