Hi All, I am a bit of a Z virgin. I just got my first 300zx today. I got a good price on it but I need a few things like brake pads, service etc.

Can someon tell me the best place to get parts and servicing in the essex area. I live in Romford and want only the best for my new car (without mega £££).

Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Stuart

Hi, Thanks for the quick response.

Well the car has done 69k and going by the service history it hasn;t had a cam belt or water pump change yet. The pulgs have been changed, it has new clutch.

So I guess I need the big 65k service with some new pads at the front.

Also I don't suppose you could tell me the best place to get tyres. I'm really sorry for all the questions but I'm sure you all know the best and cheapest places.

Thanks

The 60,000 service is a big job unfortunately. Give JeffTT a call. You may have to travel though but you had better of traveling a little to some one who will work well your car.

You may be better off buying the parts for the service yourself then paying a garage to change the stuff for you.

Tyres? Depends on what you want. Some people use http://www.mytyres.net they are good for price. Also with tyres you get what you pay for but do not go for budget tyres. I had some cheap Khumos on the rear of my car and they where dangerous. Since then I have has S02's which where fantastic and now I have Falkens which are very good and nearly half the price as the S02's. The Falkens where £80ish each and the S0'2 where £150 each

I have just bought some Falkens for the front. They cost me £70ish each which is a nice price. They may seem expenisve compaired to normal tyres, but they are larger than normal tyres.

This is presuming you have stock wheels. You have 225/50/16 Front and 245/45/16 Rears?

Pads. Ask some people on here. They can get parts cheaper than other places for quality parts too.

The obvious places for servicing local to you is SE Nissan 01621 858856. For sensibly priced parts, good deals on tyres etc then call Mike Feeney at MJP on 01277 374201. I'm not a million miles from you so I might be able to help with fitting of some stuff if that sort of thing is not your thing. 'fraid I don't really have time to do cambelt type jobs though.

Hi Stuart,

Thaks very mch for your help. Personally I think £70 for 2 new tyres is an excellent price. I had the same size tyre on my M5 and I was paying minimum of £130 per tyre. I am very happy now with my new Z ;) .

I currently have almost new 245/45 ZR16 Falken FK45's on the back and almost bald 225/50 ZR16 Potenza S-02's on the front. :o

With regards to the service etc. I have heard than I can get the parts from Courtesy Nissan at a very good price. Would you reccomend anyone else ?. Also where can I get Jeff's contact information ?.

Thanks again.

Stuart

Hi Andy,

I'm actualy in Chadwell Heath, I've only seen 300zx in this area. Dark Grey with huge single exhaust and a burgundy with tinted windows and rather large boot spoiler. Any of them you ?

I really appreciate the offer to help. I didn't think a newbie to Z's would get this kind of attention. I'm really greatful.

I love to get my hands dirty, but I have to admit I would know where to start. I looked under the bonnet and scared the pants off myself :D .

I will also ty out MJP I believe they are in brentwood. Do you know if they are open today ?

Stuart

Jeffs on this board, in the traders section (zedword).

deffo worth getting the bits from Courtesy, esp if your gonna be replacing a lot of parts (delivery costs make it not worthwhile if your only getting a few cheap bits)

if your having the cambelt replaced, many replace the water pump & a few other bits & bobs at the same time, Courtesy do a kit: Timing belt kit, check your year & model.

they are extremely helpful, & will save you a lot of money (plus you'll prob get the bits quicker than if you ordered here in the uk!!)

Excellent, thanks Paul. Looks like you guys are all going to save me a fortune. I was prepared to spend a lot of money on maintainance as I've always wanted a 300zx. It seems now that It's not going to cost me as much as I thought in the first place.

Hi Paul,

I can't seem to post on that thread, so I'll reply here.

The ride to Kent would be something I'm interested in, as long as I can get my new front tyres on before next weekend I'll be up for it.

Can I ask, is it a lads day out or are you all taking your other halves ?

well mrs c's prob coming along.

ps you cant post on the other forums unless youve subscribed (see the sticky post at the top of this forum)

Hi Stuart,

Hope you can make it to the meet next weekend ... the more the merrier:p

For the record, I've not been at this game for long either, but I've found Mike at MJP extremely helpful, albeit that he's on holiday for a couple of weeks right now. He does have a mechanic who recently did my clutch and exhaust for me with a minimum of hassle (and more importantly) a minimum of un-necessary cost too ... strongly recommended.

Mike's easy to get hold of on the zclub.net bulletin board, BTW.

CheerZ,

John.:D

Sorry I wasnt on Messenger when you added me last night.

I waited for a while but then had to go bed cos I had work in the morning.

Thanks guys for your help.

I took a drove up to my parents today and decided to take apit stop in Brentwood. At least I know where Mike is based now. I was expecting a showroom type shop for seom strange reason, but I guess that would come with a big price tag for all the work done on our cars.

I spoke to my mrs about Sunday and she would love to come along, so I will take a day off in the week and sort some tyres out.

Can anyone tell me where I can get a couple of new S-02's or Falken's. I don't know much about tyres but I would like to pay under £200 for 2 good front tyres. I need them before Saturday or I would give mike a call.

Thanks

Stuart

S02 are now out of use and you are very lucky to get 2 of them now and you would be lucky to get 2 for under £200.

As for Falkens, I my went local tyre place Pemberton Tyres for Falkens for the fronts they had none, the UK depot didnt have any and Pemberton Tyres phoned round to find some for me. The next day the found 2 in Scotland.

There are plenty of other makes that perform well and not too expensive. Try Fulda, FB Goodridge, Goodyear F1's.Phone your local tyre place for prices, but phone round. I have been given a difference of over £100 for 2 of the same tyres at different places.
