Got engine running but after 2 mins roughly the aux fan kicks in and stays on regardless of temp switch bypass, is this a sign of a faulty ecu? Tried my own ecu on it and the car is fine!

Probably answered my own question but I'm a bit miffed as I have to swap my ecu from my main z to my track one, I purchased the impul ecu so I didn't have to do this

You didn't over tighten the ecu when you fitted the impul did you? Also is it that much of an issue? Just unplug the aux your not going to want or need it tomorrow. You can always reconnect in the pits to give you some extra cooling.

Pulling the aircon relay will do the same job.

It makes the car hesitant too so it is a problem

That will be due to the 9:1 AFR that occurs with a faulty or incompatible chip/ECU combination. You do not want to drive it like that.

So the impul ecu I bought off of here is shite! Great oh well we will be swapping my ecu to the track slag when we get to trax then.

Checked it again this evening , the fan kicks in and now engine check light comes on!! Plug my mines ecu in and it runs fine. So ecu shagged!

if the EML is on, pull the codes and see what its trying to tell you. for instance, a duff temp sender will make the aux fan come on, make the mixture richer and bring on the EML

No it won't. It's a faulty/incompatible chip.

As said over PM, I purchased this ECU from JeffTT and never fitted it. Infact the box was opened and closed again, never used and them sold to yourself. Will need to see what Jeff says, though given that it was a good few months ago that I bought it from him and approx a month ago you bought it from me not sure what will be done if anything!?!

It's not necessarily faulty. I made a basemap for someone and it did exactly the same thing. Twice.

All that needs to be done is to swap the known good chip into the problem ECU first of all. If it works, then it's a software issue. This can then be rectified easily enough by programming the Impul map data in conjunction with the working base image onto a fresh EPROM :)

It is faulty , it was sold as working , if it arrives and doesn't work it's faulty.

i have another socketed ecu, I don't or didn't want to be pissing around taking ecu's apart, hence why I bought this,

Nothing to do with me, just giving my own experience regarding incompatibility. All the best with it.

I know it's not sorry didn't mean it to sound like it was.

If the fan starts immediately it is either a corrupt/incompatible chip or a dud ECU. As Noz says, try a different chip first before condemning the ECU.

I had about 6 dud ECUs that someone took of my hands to fix, can't remember who it was now, so don't know whether he was successful.
