Something that I have been meaning to do for some time now, is remove a redundant pager that had been spliced into my alarm system.

It had also been spiced into my audio antena.

Can anyone advise me as to if there are male to female connectors available please?

I do not want to splice back together as previously.

Hope someone can help.

Jaikai right on the solution, for a quick fix pick them up from B&Q or a maplins if you have one nearby, however make sure you get the right size for the cable as connectors come in two sizes.

If you get stuck, I can send some out on Monday, have every type of AV connector in stock.

Cheers guys, but how do I determine the correct size?

Do I measure the o/d of the cable or something?

You'll see the correct size mate. One is standard ariel size and the other is smaller, for sky boxes etc. Judging by your pic I'd say you need the satellite sky box size.

Yep, Theres not a lot between them, the larger is for RG59/RG6 cable the other for Ct100 sat cable, you could use either but it will be tighter or too easy to put on. At a guess looking at the core you have the larger cable size, so even if you buy the smaller size it will fit albeit tight.

Measure the o/d and let me know I will find out the type you need.

The cables in the picture are of the original cable fitted to a UK model.

I think I will check my SKY cable tomorrow for a comparison.

Cheer guy's

I was rather hoping for a straight forward plug in plug out type of arrangement though as I am limited for space.

They're pretty easy to fit bud. Just push down the copper outer sheath to expose the plastic core, cut a bit of the plastic to expose the wire and screw the connector on to the cable as far as it will go.

Hi SteveE,

meant to say thanks for your offer of help with regards to helping me source the right connectors. Cheer mate.

As luck would have it I had some spare ones left over from my satellite install.

With a bit of luck I will be fitting the new stereo tomorrow.

Good News! Hope you get it sorted, if still an issue let me know!

Hi SteveE, looks like I spoke too soon! The sky connectors seem to be too big, I had too wrap tape around outer cable just to get the threaded connector to bite. Worst still, the inner wire is so small in diameter that it does not touch the inner bore. If I jiggle it around it intermittently makes the odd connection.

Any ideas mate?

Do you know the cable size inner and outer core?. I should have some smaller F-type connectors I can send you, or you may have to go the BNC connection route but you need a crimping tool for a tight fit!! you also could probably get away with soldering the cables using m/f RCA Video connectors.

Thanks guy's.

I had one last attempt last night, (nearly running out of cable! lol) managed to get a good connection by doubling up the inner core by folding it over. seems to have done the trick for now. (fingers crossed) That said, I really do appreciate the offers of help and advise though guy's.

Long term I will aim to replace the cable as I have cut too much back from the original. It's just a matter of getting hold of one now.

Again, thanks all.

Well done mate, was going to suggest that as a last resort, but the core often breaks especially if its thin....good result though!

Thanks guy's.

Glad you got it sorted mate :)
